Preparing the batter for these dinner rolls made with egg and shortening is quick, but allow time for the dough to rise twice.

The secret to making less expensive cuts of meat tender is a good marinade. This one fits the bill. Mix up soy sauce, vegetable oil, ketchup, oregano, and three cloves of garlic, and then marinate the meat overnight. Grill, and slice on the diagonal.

A tasty lime dressing, with cayenne and garlic added for kick, make this salad a bit different from the one above. Avocado too. And this salad doesn't need to sit in the frig, it can be served to four hungry people immediately.

Strips of round steak and chopped scallions are marinated with soy sauce and garlic, then quickly stir fried with sesame seeds. Add a little sesame oil to the marinade if you like that flavor.

Mama's Tomato Gravy

Submitted by: M. Dommert
This dish is truly a taste of Louisiana Cajun Country. My mama made countless batches of biscuits and tomato gravy in her lifetime. I'm sure she learned to make this from her mother. This is the dish that puts my feet back under my mama's table. Serve with love over hot buttermilk biscuits along with bacon or sausage for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner.

A simple baked ziti strikes it rich with layers of sour cream, and three kinds of Italian cheese. Ready-made spaghetti sauce reduces the prep time, and ground meat is optional.

Cumin, cilantro and red pepper flakes lend a Southwestern flair to tender pinto beans in this recipe from Mrs. L.R. Larson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. 'This dish was inspired by one served at a Dallas, Texas restaurant. The chef added chunks of ham, but my version is meatless,' she writes. 'It makes a great Tex-Mex side or a filling lunch when served with corn bread.'

A creamy coleslaw with lots of flavor. The seasonings complement each other and the cabbage. Sometimes I add fresh minced onion if I am in the mood to chop it up. My family and friends love this coleslaw especially with BBQ sandwiches and Italian dishes.

Grandmas from all around can be proud of this unique recipe that brings fabulous results. Sliced apples are mounded in a prepared pie shell, covered with a latticed crust, and just before slipping into the oven, doused with a sugary butter syrup.

The BEST sangria recipe I've been able to hone to perfection! If you like a sweeter Sangria, use ginger ale in place of club soda.

The dressing in this spinach and strawberry salad is fabulous. It begins with vinegar and olive oil and goes on from there with sugar, bits of onion, Worcestershire, sesame seeds, paprika, and poppy seeds. It 's chilled before serving so all of the flavors mingle nicely.
