Never Bitter Lemonade

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2006
Yummy and easy. Like other reviewers said, cut down on the sugar. Served with lemon slices in a glass pitcher makes a beautiful summer drink!

Applesauce

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2006
Really good and easy to make! I've made this with and without sugar, using white and brown sugar and a combo of both. Any way I've made it has been good. You can also throw a bit of cinnamon in there for a bit of a change!

Adrienne's Cucumber Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2006
We just didn't like this - it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. We ate it for a couple of days as a side, but the leftovers just went in the trash as nobody wanted to eat it.

Lemon Tabouli

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2006
Having only tried tabouli at our Armenian restaurant, this was definitely NOT what I expected, having no tomatoes or onions and a minimal amount of parsley. It was quite tasty, though. Because of the other reviews of way too much lemon, I left out the zest and only used the juice. It wasn't lemony at all. It was really good, though and will be a nice addition to our summer salad recipe rotation. Next time, I'll add a few veggies (cucumbers, bell peppers, tomatoes, etc.) and more parsley and mint, but thanks for a yummy, different recipe!

French Beef Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2006
I used red wine to deglaze the pan, as per other reviews and added an onion and more potatoes. This was my first attempt at making beef stew and was a huge hit! I think the Dijon gave it that little "something" that made it stand out. It was great!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2006
These were great - I used 1/2 c. brown, 1 c. white sugar as per other reviews and think next time, I'll do half and half. I'll also use a full cup of cocoa to up the chocolate "shock" and use the nuts, which I left out this time. Great recipe!

Lloyd's Healthy Chicken Zoopa

Good soup, healthy with all the veggies and very little oil. I used a good bit more spinach and about double the noodles. Next time, I'll probably leave the noodles as is. Surprisingly tasty. We'll definitely be having this on regular winter rotation! Thanks a ton!

Perfect Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2006
It does NOT get easier than this. Whisk it up, pour it in and bake it. Great, great, great! (And even better the next day, if that's possible!) I used with Best Ever Pie Crust and 2 cups of real pumpkin.

Pecan Pie III

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2006
Yummy and I never knew making pecan pie was so easy. Used with Best Ever Pie Crust from this site and it was a huge hit. Next time, I'll probably go 1 1/2 on the filling ingredients since I like a deep dish pie (it may have been my pie plate, too). But this was great and definitely beats the freezer pecan pies I'm used to!

Best Ever Pie Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2006
This was my first attempt at making pie crust. Where we live you can't buy pie crusts, so Thanksgiving last year called for me to bite the bullet and make one. Using a butter knife, my hand was killing me by the time I felt that I had the shortening sufficiently "cut in," and so I wasn't thrilled about finishing up the recipe. I did, though, and it was delicious! My ex-pat friends were asking me where I found pie crust at the store! It was beautiful and flaky and oh so tasty. If I get one of those pastry cutter things, it will end my pie crust buying days when we're back in the States for sure. But it is a lot of work to make.

Real Southern Cornbread

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2006
This is what the name says - real southern cornbread. I only have a small cast iron skillet and so cooked part of it in there and the rest in a pyrex dish and the skillet bread was definitely better. The crust is great - a bit crunchy on edges and chewy on the top. Delicious with chili and other soups where sweet cornbread just doesn't work and also great for dressing!

Cornbread Dressing I

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2006
Sorry, mom, I think I've got you beat now! This was great dressing! I start about a month before Thanksgiving freezing my leftover cornbread and biscuits so that I don't have MORE cooking to do around Thanksgiving and so the two cans of chicken broth wasn't quite enough for me. Luckily I have seen my mom make dressing enough to know what it was supposed to look like before it went into the oven. I also aadded more salt and a lot more sage. Next time, I'll probably just add a boullion cube to the broth/vegetables/butter boiling mixture. Thanks for a wonderful recipe that made Thanksgiving away from home more bearable!

Corn Souffle

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2006
Good, but like other reviewers said, too sweet. Next time I'll probably eliminate the sugar altogether since cream corn is already a bit sweet. It was a big hit with my Uruguayan friends who had never had "American Thanksgiving" food before!

Halushki

This was okay, but a bit too bland for us. I was generous with the garlic powder and we added balsamic vinegar at the table, but it just didn't do it for us.

Mixed Fruit Crisp

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2006
Having some apples and bananas that were about to go bad, I searched for a recipe to use them up and happily found this one. I thought it would be a little weird with all the fruits, but it was great. Since it was winter, I used canned peaches and I'm sure it'd be better with fresh, but it was still great. Hot from the oven on a winter night with a bit of vanilla bean ice cream, this is ultimate comfort food!

Caldo Gallega

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2006
This was surprisingly tasty. I had some chorizo and some fresh spinach that I needed to use up and searched for recipes using those two ingredients. Thankfully, I decided on this one. I thought at first it would be just blah, but it was actually very good. It wasn't very pretty the day after since the potatoes kind of fell apart, but it still tasted great. Thanks for a great recipe!

Sage Pork Chops

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2006
Yummy! We loved these. I've made them several times, sometimes with chicken instead of pork since my husband isn't a pork chop fan. The chicken is still good, but the pork is definitely better to me. They are tasty and easy to make!

Green Beans with Bread Crumbs

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2006
We didn't like this at all. The spices didn't seem to go with green beans and the bread crumbs got all soggy and goopey. Plus they just didn't seem to go with the green beans - texture or taste wise. Of course, mine turned out nothing like the picture, so maybe I did something wrong. But we won't be trying again to see.

Mouth Watering Medley

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2006
We liked this, but weren't amazed by it as some reviewers were. I cooked the onion with the potatoes as I want my onions as cooked as possible. I also added two more eggs, as per other reviews and a bit of lemon pepper and oregano. My preschoolers loved it and it's a good way to get them to eat broccoli for breakfast. My husband and I liked it fine with hot sauce to spice it up a bit. It's different and a welcome change!
