Tasted very, very good, but not good enough to merit the time and effort that the recipes calls for. If you're going to make these, definitely double the recipe and freeze half.

These were good. Not "the Best", but goo. I really liked being able to make them the night before to be able to sleep in as late as possible! Good recipe!

We didn't like the texture of the bread crumbs at all. Maybe I did something wrong, but it was just a mess.

Japanese-Style Sesame Green Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2006
I had high hopes for these based on reviews, but we didn't like them at all. I made them exactly according to directions, but we didn't like the texture at all and they were kind of bland. They were pretty, but that was the only good part for us.

Sesame Seared Tuna

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2006
My husband bought salmon instead of tuna and I didn't have any mirin, so I just used red wine. I wanted the fish cooked more, and as a result ended up scorching the sesame seeds. It was still incredible. Definitely use the wasabi. It complements the fish perfectly. Next time, I'll not heat the oil so high so that the sesame seeds don't scorch. But there will definitely be a next time. So simple, yet very gourmet tasting and makes for a beautiful presentation as well.

Hummus III

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2006
I cooked my own beans (we can't get canned beans here), upped the garlic and cut the tahini almost in half, as per other reviews. This was great hummus! And it was even better the next day. It could be a base for other add-ins, but is great as it is.

Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2006
I don't know if I would call this fruit salad because there's not a whole lot of fruit with a lot of the mixture. But it is very tasty for sure. I added a lot of other fruit - apples, bananas, oranges, etc. to make it more "fruit-salad-y," but I think it would be better just as written and eaten as dessert. The pink stuff is very tasty, though and super easy to make with usually on-hand ingredients. Good recipe!

Honey Baked Chicken II

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2006
I used skinless, boneless breasts and only 1/4 c. butter. It turned out wonderful. Served over jasmine rice with steamed veggies on the side. The flavorful chicken is enough that you don't need overpowering sides. This is a definite keeper for the great taste, not labor-intensive preparation, and it's pretty to boot!

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2006
Very gourmet tasting cookies. I can't wait to make ice cream sandwiches or sandwich cookies with them. I used butter instead of margarine and since we can't get molasses here, I substituted honey. I also used an electric mixer to work with the wet ingredients and still had the "too runny to roll into a ball" problem. I just used a teaspoon to drop the dough on the cookie sheets and sprinkled them with the extra sugar. They turned out practically perfectly round still, so I don't think rolling into a ball is a necessary step. These are incredible "adult" feeling cookies, although the kids loved them, too.

Crispy Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2006
I made this using boneless, skinless breasts cut into strips and cooked at 350 for 35 minutes. I meant to check them earlier, but forgot and they were still very juicy. I also forgot to drizzle the butter over and the coating was a little "undone" looking, but still very tasty. I'm sure the butter would have made it better, but at least it was lower in fat this way. Great recipe and I can't wait to try it with the butter.

Naan

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2006
This was great. I made it in an iron skillet and it was a bit tough, but the taste was great. Next time, I'll make more balls so that I can roll it out thinner (more tortilla like). I made it with the Butter Chickpea Curry and it was a huge hit. Thanks so much!

Butter Chickpea Curry

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2006
We absolutely loved this. This was my first time to make a curry dish, but I had some garbanzo beans I needed to use and thought I'd give this a try. Boy am I glad I did! I made it just as it said (except I used a packet of soup and half the water it called for) and it was so extremely flavorful. I served it with naan and guferati (Indian green beans) from this site and my hubby just raved and raved! Thanks for a great recipe! Added note: Be sure to not skimp on the time of cooking the spices. This seems to be a vital step in releasing the full flavor of the spices. The second time I made it, it wasn't nearly as flavorful and the only difference was that I was in a hurry and just stirred them around a bit this time. It was still good, but not wow good like the first time.

Guferati (Indian Green Beans)

These were really yummy! I cut down on the oil - to between one and two tablespoons and added water when things began to stick. Just to cut down on the fat. I also used cayenne pepper since I didn't have any dried chiles, which gave it a nice kick. Great recipe!

Slow Cooker Stuffing

I never would have thought to make stuffing in the crockpot (I'm not very imaginative), but this was great! The taste was great, it wasn't too hard to make and I LOVE the slow cooker idea! Thanks for a great recipe!!

Red Velvet Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2006
This was okay, but definitely not my grandma's red velvet cake. Mine turned out very dry, but I know so much goes into play with moisture - weather, ingredient temps, etc. Thanks for the recipe, but I think I'll just keep working on grandma to get her to write down her recipe.

Eggnog I

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2006
I had never had homemade eggnog before, so I didn't really know what to expect. It turned out good, but a LOT thicker than what I'm used to and not quite as much nutmeg. I'll make this again, but add more nutmeg and maybe a touch of cinnamon.

Martha Washington Candies

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2006
These are delicious. My mom and I made these one year when I was a kid and I remember loving them. So, when I saw this recipe, I was excited to try it. I always read reviews before I make anything, and so I saw to decrease the butter (and I did use butter instead of margarine) and up the powdered sugar and they were excellent. I gave these out in a candy assortment for Christmas gifts and they were a huge hit. Thanks!
