Aunt Johnnie's Pound Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2005
This cake is moist with a fine-grained smooth texture, but not as dense as most pound cakes. The almond extract gives it a wonderful flavor. A great recipe!

BACARDI® Mixers Gold Rum and Nut Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2005
I was looking for a Bacardi Rum Cake just like my mom used to make back in the '70s. This seems to be the one; very delicious and just like I rembered! I love the butter rum flavor of this cake. I used Bacardi Select instead of Bacardi Gold for a richer rum flavor. My mother used to use Bacardi Amber Label, but it doesn't seem to be in production anymore. Bacardi Select made the cake taste exactly like the one I remembered so fondly from years ago.

Easy Decadent Truffles

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2005
I made these with Amaretto coated with ground almonds, Grand Marnier dusted with powdered sugar, Frangelico coated with chocolate non-pariels, and Chambord dusted with Ghiradelli Cocoa. They were all delicious and looked beautiful!

German Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2005
This recipe is pretty good, but not as good as German Chocolate Cake III, however, it is much quicker and easier to make. I doubled the recipe using the "change servings" function. After carefully checking all the measurements, I found discrepancies with the printed instructions, which were not updated with the ingredient list. Be careful to review the recipe when doubling and it will turn out fine. I also substituted pecans for walnuts for a more traditional frosting. Normally I would give this recipe 4 or 5 stars, but the German Chocolate Cake III is that much better if you have the time!

German Chocolate Cake III

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2005
I made this cake for my wife's birthday. It turned out great! The layers are very delicate, so be careful when handling. The filling worked fine for me, but I turned up the heat and brought it to a gentle boil while stirring constantly and it thickened up fine! My wife said it was the best cake she had ever tasted!
