Whoopie Pies

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
This was really good and a great treat! I used peanut butter filling instead of the white cream filling. That being said......it was great as a sweet treat, but, if you are looking for a traditional whoopie pie this is not it. The cake part is very different. This is more like the texture, taste, & consistency as an "oreo cakester" like you get in the store. Definitely was a good dessert and I will make again.

Spanish Rice II

This was so quick to get together and had great flavor. SOOOO much better than a box mix! The only thing I will do different next time is use chicken broth instead of water for that extra flavor I think the rice needed.

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Can I give it any more stars??? This was absolutely fantastic! I made exactly as is, except I used one drained can of kidney beans in place of one can of chili beans. I served with Mexican Cornbread. I will definitely be making this again and again.

Salsa Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
Honestly, I wasn't expecting too much with this recipe, but, I was pleasantly surprised! It had a wonderful flavor! The chicken was moist, juicy, and so flavorful! As some others did, I dredged the chicken in packet of taco seasoning like you would bread crumbs instead of just sprinkling it on. It was also great as leftovers the next day!

Peppered Bacon and Tomato Linguine

Excellent! However, I also doubled everything except the Bacon and Pasta. Had some fresh Basil so I chopped it. I deglazed the pan after browning the bacon to keep from getting to much pepper

I thought that this was fabulous! What's weird is that my non-broccoli-eating kid liked it while my kid that loves broccoli hated it.

This recipe is pretty good but it isn't the best one out there. I may attempt it again with a few alterations.

Oven Fried Chicken IV

This recipe was pretty good but it could be better. I need to try different seasonings than what the recipe called for. I believe changing spices up will make it tastier. I will drizzle butter over the top of the breaded chicken before baking next time. A buttery crust would improve the overall flavor.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

I made this for dinner tonight and it was a winner! The sauce is super yummy. I served it over broccoli and sesame noodles for a homemade noodle bowl. I have tried lots of teriyaki recipes but have never been satisfied until finding this one.

Camp David Spaghetti with Italian Sausage

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2009
I made this recipe tonight and it smelled great while it was cooking. It smelled better than it actually tasted though. I think that it was the perfect consistency (I like thick sauces) but it rather lacked in flavor. It needs something. I bet it would be better with fresh basil and perhaps a longer cooking time.

The Best Chicken Fried Steak

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2009
This recipe is great! I left out the tabasco and added a lot of Lawry's salt for flavor. The coating turned out wonderful. I did have to do the same thing as a previous poster and finish it off in the oven. My coating was perfect but the meat wasn't cooked. The gravy was a touch bland so I added more Lawry's salt and pepper to it.

I had someone bring this to a party at my home and it went quickly. I got the recipe and have made it several times since. It is wonderful! The only thing that I change is the mayo. I cannot stand the stuff so I use sour cream or plain yogurt instead.

This recipe is yummy. I left out the hot stuff but it didn't seem to hurt the flavor. I also subbed beer for the wine since I didn't have any on hand. We really liked this and will make it again. I will say though that I will use small whole mushrooms next time rather than just the caps.

I also had to bake this pie a bit longer but it was perfect!! Great flavor. It really is rich though so you need to cut this into smaller slices than usual. It is super simple to make yet it impresses your guests. They think that you made an elaborate recipe.

American Frittata

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2009
This is a good base recipe for making frittatas. I use half the amount of potatoes (which I prefer to use hash browns for convenience) and throw in whatever I have on hand to make up for it (ham, sausage, bacon, peppers, leeks, broccoli, tomatoes, onions, etc.). I make it different almost every time. If I use bacon, I saute the potatoes, onions and bacon together and then pour the egg mixture directly into it. That subs out the vegetable oil for bacon grease which is much more flavorful. My family really likes American cheese in it so I cut slices into small pieces and toss it over the top. I make sure to push it into the egg mix a little bit so it doesn't get burnt in the oven. I add the shredded cheddar on top so that it protects the American cheese from getting browned. The cooking time for the oven seems a little bit short in the recipe so I cook the frittata for about 15 min. The top should be nice and brown.

Country Apple Dumplings

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2009
OMG, I cannot believe how good this recipe is! It is super simple to make and everyone I made this for loved it. The bag of apples I had weren't large so there wasn't quite enough apple in each one. I can't wait to make this again with with bigger apples. I just know that they will be perfect. :)
