For an earthy delight, rub pork chops with a pungent seasoning of dried sage, salt and pepper, and then saute in butter until golden brown. Let the chops go for a low simmer in a simple beef bouillon.

An unusual layered brunch sandwich, old family weekend favorite. A delicious flavor combination of bacon, cheese and pineapple. You'll see why they call Hawaii the Sandwich Islands!

Sausage & White Bean Soup

Submitted by: USA WEEKEND columnist Pam Anderson

Instead of starting with a hambone (which you won't have unless you've just eaten a baked ham) and dried beans (which require significant soaking and simmering time), simply open cans of chicken broth and beans. Minced prosciutto instantly transforms commercial chicken broth into a ham-flavored soup base. Italian sausage reinforces the pork flavor and makes the soup substantial and satisfying. Mashing some of the canned beans thickens the soup and gives it the body of one that's been long simmered. Sauteed onions, carrots and celery add depth of flavor and ensure the soup's homemade feel.

I don't really care for stuffed green peppers, but I have found that I really like them with yellow, orange, or red peppers. The salsa gives these an added kick.

I've tried other waffle recipes, and this is one is by far the best! The texture is moist, not dry - and they freeze well.

A refreshing cool and creamy soup made with mango. You may add blueberries or sliced strawberries as a garnish when in season. Fat free sour cream may be substituted for the half-and-half cream.

Key West Chicken

This recipe from the Florida Keys has been given to almost everyone I know. It is the best marinade for chicken, and it only takes 30 minutes from prep till you can grill! It's a great blend of flavors with honey, soy sauce, and lime juice. If you have time, try marinating overnight for the fullest flavor.

This cake is very easy, very rich, and very good! You may substitute vanilla pudding for a less chocolaty cake, or substitute semi-sweet chocolate chips for a more intense chocolate flavor.

Fresh strawberries are filled with an orange-flavored cream cheese. Yum, yum! Sometimes I add some finely chopped semi-sweet chocolate. These are perfect for baby showers or wedding showers.

Ruth's Red Lentil and Potato Soup

Submitted by: Ruth Gooch
I made up this recipe one chilly weeknight to stave off a cold. I was surprised at how delicious the soup was! The file powder makes it nice and thick, but it may be left out. A warm loaf of sourdough bread is all you need to complete your meal!
