Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

If I could give this recipe 10 stars I would. I made this using Ruth's grandmother's pie crust from this site and it was a hit at Thanksgiving.

No Bake Cookies V

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
These are SO good! No Bake Cookies or as we have always called them Boiled Oatmeal Cookies have been a Christmas tradition in my family since before I was born. We all love them, and when I share them with people who haven't had them before they always get rave reviews. They're also great without the cocoa. No changes need to be made other than simply omitting the cocoa. FYI: I've never added salt to mine.

Cinnamon Swirl Bundt Coffee Cake

I made this to take to the hospital after my niece was born and it was an absolute hit. I used brown sugar instead of white for the filling and doubled the mixture to add more layers. I also used light sour cream to shave some calories.

Cake Balls

I love making these to give as favors at parties. They're a little time consuming and can be messy, especially if you're still trying to develop your technique like I am. They're great though because you can switch up the recipe and use any flavor cake mix/icing combo you like and decorate them according to your color choices.

Awesome and Easy Creamy Corn Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2009
My husband and kids LOVE corn so I thought I'd try this, I bumped it up a notch by adding half a finely minced red bell pepper, and a jalapeno out of the garden for a southwest flair. Before popping in the oven I sprinkled on some parmesan cheese and paprika over the top. Let me tell you this smells heavenly while baking, they were all begging for dinner! I served it with Sloppy Joes which is always a favorite. Next time I may add some sharp cheddar, we will enjoy this again soon - It was a hit!!!

Pineapple Layer Cake

Minus the mandarin oranges, and this is my family's traditional Christmas dessert. Since before I was born this has been THE dessert for Christmas dinner. My grandmother would make it every year, then when I became old enough to bake, I took over making it. We used to make it with canned vanilla frosting, but a few years ago I changed to the cool whip frosting, and it's SO good!

I forgot two ingredients!!! - one egg yolk and 2-3 tbls oil! You can save the egg white to brush on tops of rolls before baking.

Uncle White's Bread Machine Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
I used this recipe to use up an abundance of homegrown/made kefir milk. The rise was phenomenal - I almost didn't want to make the dough into rolls! I did need to increase the milk to close to 1 and 1/4 cups as another reviewer also did. My dough just looked too dry. I used the muffin tin for single rolls (will try clover ones next time). And I rubbed a cold stick of butter on top when they were done baking. Yummy! I will make again.

I rate this recipe a 5 stars. But I did use 1/2 butter and 1/2 shortening. I didn't use the salt. I ues this recipe with the Sweet Potato Pie by Cougaar off this web site.

White Chocolate Pretzel Snack

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2009
This is a true staple when it comes to holiday treats for my family! I have always, always, always used white chocolate candy melts or almond bark instead of white chocolate with shortening and it works great, plus it saves the step of having to add the shortening. I have seriously been making this stuff since I was barely old enough to use the stove, or even the microwave, since that's usually how I melt the white chocolate/almond bark.

Wow these were phenominal! Even my boyfriend who doesn't really care for salmon ate them up. I didn't have any bread crumbs so I used herb stuffing mix and it was very good and crunchy.

Shrimp Scampi III

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2009
The easiest company-worthy dish I've come across. The sauce was the perfect consistency for clinging to the shrimp and lingering on the tongue - and looked glossy like the magazine photos to boot! I gave this 5 stars with slight modifications: left the minced garlic in the dish and added a dash each of Season-All and lemon pepper and a tablespoon of lemon juice. Fabulous! Thanks for the submission.

Chicken and Dumplings III

I did not care for this recipe. I'm used to true homemade chicken and dumplings. This tasted like canned soup and the biscuits were gummy. I know it cooked long enough but still gummy. Very disappointed in all the positive reviews.
