Simple Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2009
I made the following modifications: used 1 1/4 of meat (that's all I had), added diced onion and green peppers, decreased the soy sauce to 1 tbsp then added 2 tbsp of yellow mustard and 2 of Worcestershire sauce. Both my roommate and I loved it! It tasted like the sloppy joes I had when I was a kid.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2009
I loved this recipe. I didn't have onions, so I omitted them. I added a can of potatoes and carrots(both drained) in the last hour of cooking. It was delicious. Even my picky roommate loved it. I served it over white rice. Leftovers are delicious, too.

Summer Beer II

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2009
I really wish someone would have given info of some sort about what kind of beer to use considering not all are equal. I ended up using an actual Sam Adams Summer Beer. I added a bit of sugar as the overall flavor was not as sweet as I would have hoped for. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this! As others have stated, this is indeed the perfect summer gathering beverage!

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed: May 9, 2009
This was REALLY good. One of the chops never made it to the oven :-) Frying it was heaven so I snuck one for myself. I don't drink so buyiny wine was out of the question so it was omitted, but to be honest it was still a great dish that will be maid from now on! I don t know what the other people are talking about it not being good. 5 stars!!!

Black-Eyed Pea Gumbo

Reviewed: May 7, 2009
Yum. I omitted the bell pepper as I can't stand them, and decided at the last minute to use 3 cans of black-eyed peas and 1 can of field peas just to give it a little toss up in flair. Everything else was as written and I thought the dish was very good. I had trouble getting the brown rice to cook thoroughly, despite giving it extra time and liquid to cook. I seem to have that problem with most dishes involving rice so next time I'll just use my rice cooker and cook the rice completely and toss it into the mix. I made this a second time and added cooked ground turkey for a more satisfying meal. With or without the ground turkey, my family loved it. Thanks for a great addition to our family menu!

Easy Salsa Meatloaf

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2009
I never would have thought of using salsa with meatloaf. This was outstanding! I ate it with dinner rolls and garlic seaoned potatoes. My next batch i'll add hot salsa! My daughter (LOL) said " daddy this don't look good", then added ketchup and said "now that's better".....she had two servings!

Sausage and Egg Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
OK, I tried it and thought it was really good. I used precooked sausage links (it was all I had) and added some onion with cubed ham. The pre cooked sausage was really strong. I do plan to make this again with your recipe without adding anything.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2009
Ok, so I'm a dude and cooking is something that I don't do well. With that being said these cookies were great warm from the oven, but left overnight they seem to turn to stone (really hard) and I was wondering if adding a little extra something would keep that from happening?

The eggs absolutely ruined this. This isn't a casserole; it's a glorified soufflé.

Fantastic! I would have never dreamed of such a simple recipe as this. The results were great for my gingerbread men and the mild spice flavor was awesome for anyone who eats them. I can't speak highly enough about this one. It's a total keeper!

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2008
Simply amazing. The grocery store was completely out of all the vanilla pudding (name brand and store brand) so the only thing I could get was the sugar free kind. I was hoping it wouldn't mess anything up and I was very pleased to see that it did not. Everything turned out brilliantly. A total keeper for years and years to come!

Excellent recipe. I used the Jif w/ honey type peanut butter and thought it could have used a bit more peanut butter... however that's my own personal opinion and luckily it can be adjusted per individual tastes. Keeper for me :)

15-Minute Dinner Nachos Supreme

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
I followed everything to the core. I found that I had to add a couple extra cups of water because the rice was still not cooked after 10 minutes. After those extra cups of water and an additional 10 or 15 minutes, we were left with edible cooked rice, but not tender like you'd expect with this. It was disappointing, but can easily be fixed next time when I just use a rice cooker to ensure the correct texture and then just mix the two together. Not to shabby :)

Speedy Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2008
For the first time, I can say that a recipe listed the serving size accurately! It was perfect for two. I was so excited to try this out with my 5 y/o daughter. We were both amazed at how it turned out. I shook it for about 5 minutes and then opened the bag and added some crushed Oreos; resealed the bag and shook again for another 4-5 minutes. I think if you're going to add crushed Oreos, you may want to cut the vanilla back to 1/4 teaspoon. It's definitely a personal choice though. As I have seen mentioned many, many times about this method, it does come out like soft serve ice cream. It did thicken up a bit more after letting my bag sit in the freezer for a while. Either way, I give this 5 stars easily! It's cheap, fun, child friendly, completely non messy AND tasty, what more could you possibly ask for? :) *Note* My current picture was taken on my cell phone, I will provide a better picture when I make this again soon!

Easy Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2008
I added Worcestershire sauce as well as French cut green beans. I skipped the chopped onion and fresh mushrooms and in place of them, used dried onions and canned mushrooms as I was lacking the extra time needed for the fresh ingredients. It all turned out well and my family enjoyed it.

Cabbage Beef Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2008
Just wonderful! I generally hate to alter recipes and then rate them as I don't find it fair to the recipe submitter. I can only imagine how great this is without the alterations that I made! With that being said, I made a only a few minor tweaks as followed: I only used 1 can of Northern beans (I don't like kidney beans), nixed the cumin, and used 1 regular can of tomato sauce and 1 regular can of petite diced tomatoes. So again, no major changed in my opinion. We ate this for dinner and I served with yeast rolls. I'm quite sure this will be one of those dishes that's even 10x better the next day. Fantastic recipe; thanks for sharing! :)

Excellent Broccoli Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2007
As a caterer, I have many recipes for soup, including broccoli cheese. I did try this recipe and found it to be very good. If you like cheese and broccoli, this is a great meal. The only change I made was 1/2 milk and 1/2 heavy cream for a richer soup.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2007
Fantastic! This is the perfect snickerdoodle recipe! The only change I made was using all butter. I was able to get 48, 2-inch cookies out of the total mix. The cookies were perfectly sweetened and airy like they're supposed to be. I did find that 8 minutes was too long, but 7½ minutes was perfect. Delicious and simple; you can't beat that!

Simple Maple Syrup

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2007
Fan-freakin-tastic!!! I'm currently living overseas and the country I live in doesn't use maple syrup, despite the fact that they sell real American pancake mix, go figure. Recently we wanted pancakes, so I prayed to the culinary gods in hopes of finding a recipe on here and was soooo happy to find this. The only downside was it's need for maple extract (yep, can't get that either!) so I thought maybe using vanilla would be okay, but I was still worried. I was THRILLED to see so many others saying they used vanilla instead! Indeed, using the vanilla was great! I used 1 cup of white sugar and 1 cup of light brown sugar (didn't have any dark brown sugar) and I also added about 2 teaspoons of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of real butter. Yes, it's true; the end result will not lead to a thick syrupy texture that many are used to, but I don't know of many normal people who drink the left over syrup off their plates anyway. I cannot thank you enough for this recipe, it's allowed me to hang on to a few of my comforting American foods.
