Pistachio Cake II

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2009
amazing!! we accidently added both pkgs of pudding to the cake mix and didn't realize till they were baking, my sweetie and i were doing a 2gether one nite for our employees and figured we'd try them to see if they were ok b-4 a re-do and boy were they good so i will always use the 2 pkgs in the cake mix!! we added chopped milk chocolate! i iced these cupcakes with white chocolate cream cheese icing spinkled with chopped milk chocolate & pistachios!! everyone went nuts!!! no pun intended!! lol!!! best ever!!! would have given a 5 star but never have given one yet... i'm saving it for something???? lol!!!! p.s. after reading a few of the other reviews i think the 2 pkgs of pudding is the reason the flavor was sooo amazing as some of the others spoke of weak flavor & we found no lack of flavor in ours! they were flavorful and moist and delish!! they were also very eye appealing, brite and lively looking but we had also added about 6 drops of green food coloring!! really these were exceptional and this from a true sweets addict!! the chopped milk chocolate truly added a nice dimension definately a worthy addition!!!

the tropics come for a visit when u serve this cake!! what a delight!! tangy, tasty, delish!!! i made one change, i added 2 additional tblspns of lime juice in the cake mix after tasting the batter just because i wanted a more outstanding lime taste! i glazed the cake entirely when warm and there was still a visable icing and wow was it tangy and tasty!! would be outstanding with ice cream!!! coconut would be exciting as an ice cream to drive home the tropical taste sensation!! we also did some cupcakes with a white chocolate cream cheese icing which was to die for!!! definately will revisit this one!! i almost for got but added a few drops of green food color for eye appeal!!

Apricot Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
i have never given anything 5 stars but this came very close to being the first!! i didnt change a thing even after reading the reviews of at least 20 helpful gr8 people who were nice enuf to leave their helpful hints and this was amazing!! i had to fight myself to keep from doubling the spice as so many had suggested but wanted to see how it was first as it was submitted, my sweetheart isnt as fond of this style food as i, so i figured if it lacked i could always add the next day because i was making this a day ahead of eating it anyway. i did double the recipe as i had promised some taste testing at the office ahead of making it!! lol!! i loved it without the extra spices and in no way found this to be bland or boring!! i did find i had to add only 1 cup additional broth (which since we are vegetarians i used veggie broth)in cooking and that is between the double recipes as it got too thick the last 15 min of cooking and i like very thick soup! i was just a little afraid it would scorch so i added the cup of broth to be safe. there was no need to blend the soup, the lentils broke down nicely and it was nice and creamy when cooking was complete. i did peel and seed my tomatoes and really think the fresh peeled an seeded tomatoes are worth the little extra tinme it takes so come people dont be so hurried spoil urselves!! i found the red lentils at whole foods market and they were worth the drive!! this is an awesome soup and next time i will try with the cubed sweet potato an

Gooey Butter Cake I

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2009
thank u all of u who care enuf to leave ur reviews cuz without them i would be lost!! i use them on every recipe and don't make anything on this site without first reading at least 20 if there are that many available!!deelishhhh!! i did do a lil' altering after reading the reviews from the greats!! lol!! as follows, i used a chocolate cake mix, all butter, 2-8 oz blocks of cream cheese & didn't add any extra confectioners sugar, 2 tsps. vanilla in the topping along with 3/4 cup white choc. chips! sprinkled top with 2 tbsp confectioners with 1 tbsp cocoa mixed in! this has just the right amt of topping this way and i baked for 35 minutes even with the extra topping and that was the perfect amount of time!! the topping was lite golden brown around the edges, jiggly when removed and when cooled gooey center just the rite amt of topping, cake was almost like a dense cake-like brownie. there is absolutely nothing bland about the topping and the cake was not crumbly or overly dry at all!! this is a keeper!! would be amazing with strawberry cake and will try that or orange next time!!

Cheesy Ranch Potato Bake

fab!! i didn't omit butter and my honey is more particular than i and we didn't find to greasy however we had cut the recipe in half?? don't think that wd matter however!! maybe the others used a different type of potato than called for and that cd have made a difference as some potatoes are drier than others?? i made exactly as called for and was great!! wouldn't change a thing other than i used fat free cheese and fat free dressing! will try without butter next time and c what all the fuss is about!!

Fabulous Roasted Cauliflower Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2009
first time i've given anything 5 stars and honestly this is amazing!! simple, handy ingredients and i only changed the type of stock because my "king" is a vegetarian, so we used veggie stock! still amazing! as the cauliflower roasted i did stir occaisionally to prevent any scorching and for a lil' color i used red onion! rather than pureeing i did as another and used my potato masher as i like the texture and also as another review suggested i used a lil' cayenne to give it a kick! this is definately one i'll make from now on!! fast, easy & delish!! thanks!!

Poached Eggs and Asparagus

this was sooo much better than it sounded!! my sweety doesn't care for asparagus so he wilted spinach for under the eggs and used a plain yogurt with chives as a dressing over a toasted pumpernickel with the wilted spinach that was wilted in olive oil, volcanic sea salt from hawaii & a touch of fresh minced garlic! absolutely delicious!!

Chocolate Pound Cake II

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2009
i was a little scared by the first review as i use the reviews to help in my decisions when using these recipes but decided after reading a few more that i would tweek it just a bit and use it any way and it was great! my changes were as follows and believe me or check my profile sweets are my addiction and after the tweeks everyone who tried it wanted the recipe and my love who is especially particular raved about it, its a keeper!! i used all butter no shortening, i cut the flour to 2 c flour & used 1 1/2 c cocoa for a richer chocolate flavor , i just cut the sugar back a little and used some brown as follows 1 1/2 c wht sugar & 1 c dark brn sugar packed, 1 tsp each baking powder & baking soda & switched the milk to buttermilk for that homemade taste. i cut the vanilla to a tsp, as i said im a chocolate lover!! lol!! lastly i switched the nuts for chocolate chunks and iced with vanilla, striped with melted chocolate, filled the center with hershery hugs and what a hit!!!!

Red Velvet Cake IV

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
this was my first attempt at a red velvet cake and i as many others have stated followed this recipe to the t and had no problems what so ever. i will the next time use 2 oz of red food color as i want the deepest of red velvet cakes! i haven't tasted the cake yet as i am taking the advice of my dear review freinds who have helped me immeasurably thru the years and will be refrigerating it for a day b-4 decorating and doing the same with the icing recipe which i also followed exactly and refrigerated. the cake texture was perfect as for baking and they fell out of the pans!! as far as i can see for now these layers appear perfect and i will add to this review 2nite when i finish my valentine creation for my employees!! 2/10/09 well i finished this cake last night and it was worth waiting to finish as it was very easy to work with cold. the cake was perfect in every way and i'm not sure why others had problems? the cake was dense and delicious with just a hint of chocolate flavor. my ignorance of red velvet cakes may come into play here but i as well as those who shared this creation with me enjoyed this cake very much! my friends and employees like myself are not shy, they would have not hesitated to give a discerning review!! the icing is to die for although it is soft and not so easy for use in decorating unless maybe a small amount of confectioners sugar were to be added to stiffen it up but i wouldn't ruin the taste. one of the nice things with this icing is that it doe

these were fabulous and were gone from the breakroom within minutes literally!! i did take the advice of others and did a little revising on my own with amazing results after the help of all u gr8 helpers!! thanks again as always 4 ur reviews they are soooo helpful!! i used grands for the biscuts and 2 marshmallows since some of u indicated there was not enough "gooey stuff" inside!! lol!! instead of just rolling the marshmallows i spooned about a TBSPN of cinnamon & sugar inside and pinched shut then rolled the whole thing in butter and covered with cinnamon & sugar baked 15 min. and melted butterscotch chips with a lil oil in it to squeeze from a bottle over the top!! they had plenty of "gooey stuff" & cinnamon & sugar and everyone loved them!!! i baked them in a well greased muffin pan and had no trouble removing them!! they looked gr8 and tasted even better!!
