Boston Baked Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
Not a bad recipe, but if you are using dried beans, I would drain and re-rinse after soaking, and keep the cooking water. Why on Earth would you want to use the same dirty soaking water in your food? Beans also contain ogliosaccharides, mostly on the skin, soaking washes that off and thus reduces gas issues.

Used this on baked chicken. It's very traditional and inoffensive, but it feels like it needs something more. 4.5 out of 5.

I was worried this would be too spicy, but I used this on a roast and it was awesome. My guests all went back for seconds. Thanks!

Marbled Pumpkin Cheesecake

This was good! The crust was a bit over done, but maybe that's my oven. Next time I'll omit pre-baking the crust or turn it down just a bit. Tasty, fairly easy, I'll make it again!

Jamaican Jerk Dry Rub

I didn't have any chipotle powder, and I halved the cayenne as others recommended. I used this as a rub for a chicken I baked for dinner, and my boyfriend and I both loved it.

Lemon Lover's Pound Cake

This is a phenomenal cake. It has an old-fashioned air! I made this cake exactly as directed, but without the frosting. For a glaze, I used powdered sugar and lemon juice. The cake was baked yesterday. It is all gone today!

I loved this recipe AS IS! Next time I would add additional mushrooms cuz we like them. I do not think it needs any bouillon or additional salt. The gravy is thick enuf once the cream cheese is added. The house smelled yummy when I came home from work! Thanks Jessica!

Salmon Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2009
I had unexpected company & they rated this recipe 5 stars. I rated it a 4 b/c it was a bit dry for my taste. The seasoning is very good. Love the veggies. I would add less macaroni next time or increase the liquid. The vinegar likely cuts the fishy taste to the canned salmon, so I would not omit. A good way to add salmon to one's diet! Thx Pixie.

Easy Lasagna II

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2009
This was excellent; the only change I made was to sub ricotta cheese for the cottage cheese. The meat-to-cheese-to-noodle ratios suited our tastes perfectly. The only changes I will make next time will be to added about a tsp of garlic powder and a tsp of red pepper flakes for a little zing.

Corn Tortillas

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2009
I made this last week according to directions. They came out wonderful. If you are having problem with them sticking then add your water slowly to the masa slowly as you mix. Just sa it becomes hard to stir with a spoon, use your hands to mis and mix in just enough water to hold it together adn kneed it a bit. It should no longer stick to your hands, if it does add sprinkle a tad more masa on the ball of dough and kneed a bit more. If you are having trouble with it sticking while rolling or pressing out, then place a ball of dough inbetween 2 pieces of plastic wrap, press, then slowly peel off the plastic wrap. This is how i did it and it works wonderfully. Last night I made them again and added a little salt to the mix, pressed them, then deep fried them into the shape of a bowl for my chili. The kids loved them, and I didnt have bowls to wash! Just carefully place a pressed tortilla into the hot oil and hold a metal ladle down in the center of it as it fries. Pretty simple, and quite tasty!!! You can also make the dough just a little stiffer and use a pizza cutter to make your own fritos!!! they went well with the chili. I LOVE THIS RECIPE!

Peppy's Pita Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2009
this was awsome! The only change i made was I fried them instead of baking them. I wanted more ofa flat bread instead of a pocket. I fried them in a TBS. of olive oil in my cast iron skillet till the bubbles browned on then flipped thme over. Removed them and placed them on a paper towel and flattened them down with a plate on top. The only problem i had was i didnt make enough. I filled them with a chicken salad and my boys devoured them. Thank You for this recipe!

Yummy Pikelets

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2009
they were good. i used my homemade strawberry rhubarb jam and whipped cream. For me it was just a small heavy pancake. It was good. Nothing to write home about. I followed the recipe to the note. It just isn't fair to rate something unless you do!!! I did find that the thinner I made the batter, the better we liked them. I would make it again because they are just so easy.
