YUMMY!!!
Although this recipe is very close to the one I always use, this was better!!! I made “breakfast for dinner” last night and this recipe was a HIT!!! I think it was the vanilla extract and the flour. I added a dash of nutmeg along with more cinnamon than called for, (as other reviewers have done) and it was perfect. I scaled down the recipe to 6 servings (but it got all funny and called for 1 ½ eggs… how do you measure 1 ½ eggs) So this is what I did, I used only 2 tablespoons of flour, ½ cup of half & half, 1 pinch of salt, 2 eggs, ½ teaspoon of cinnamon and ¼ teaspoon nutmeg, ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract and 2 teaspoons of brown sugar. I then whisked it all together, but it was really really thick, so I added about 3 tablespoons of milk or so and continued to whisk it all together until it was thinner. I dipped the bread slices into the mixture and placed on a butter greased electric griddle. I cooked all 6 slices at the same time; they were crispy and golden brown when done. I had a little extra batter so I let a heel of the bread soak it all up and then cooked that up… It was so good. This is my new French Toast Recipe!!! ! Thank you Bonnie!!!!
