Slow Cooker Beef Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
This may be the best soup I have ever made. Excellent! I made a few changes. I used fresh carrots and potatoes cut very small. I used canned diced tomatoes with garlic and basil and I added (2) cans of beef broth since I didn't have any liquid from canned pot. and carrots. For the meat I used left over roast beef from the previous nights dinner. Did not need extra salt/pepper due to the onion soup mix. This is a keeper!

I have a similar receipe that I use, but the only difference is that I use SMOKED HAM HOCKS, which add's a major difference to the flavor AND I do cook my rice separately and just add whatever amount of rice I want with this dish (or just service the beans over the rice).

Charleston Breakfast Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
As others have stated, this is a really good base recipe that can be tweeked for use with other meats, veggies and cheeses. We love breakfast but seldom make it at home. Too much hassle trying to get everyone eating together with everything hot at the same time. This recipe resolves that issue. I used 6 slices bacon and 1/2 of a 1 lb tube of Jimmy Dean ground sausage. Cooked the bacon till browned but not crisp, cut into 1 in pieces. Browned sausage, then added 1/2 cup onion, sauteed till translucent. Stirred in the bacon and removed from heat. Used 9x13 pan, sprayed with Pam. Used garlic and onion croutons, topped with 2 cups cheddar jack cheese. Used 7 eggs (due to the larger pan size). Skipped the bell pepper. Used dijon mustard. Seasoned with salt, seasoned pepper and garlic powder. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is my husband said that it reminded him of McDonald's breakfast burrito. He still had seconds..but the remark stuck with me. Next time I will try this with bagels instead of croutons. Or maybe potatoes.

A-Maize-ing Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
Absolutely delicious (and easy)! I made this a few months back and have made it about every other week since then. It pairs well with cornbread. I do prefer it without bacon, which is not the norm for me since everything tastes better with bacon. I also add an extra can of corn, per another review. To top it off I add some shredded cheddar. It's the perfect recipe for a cold winter's day...a must try!

Kowloon's Chinese Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
I followed this recipe just as it is written and I don't think I could alter it to make it any better. However I did use a generic brand and small party piece wings, I will use a better quality of chicken next time and shop for good size wings. A very good and easy recipe that this cook is sure to use again.

It was a big hit in my house as everyone helped them selves to seconds lol. My parents always come over early to see the kids and they loved this casserole . Baklava

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
I made as written and although it seemed too dry at first, after storing in the freezer it comes out as perfect as any I've ever had. I think it just needs time to "meld". Also, the top layers need a little buttering, too, to keep them from curling. I cut it into squares before baking, then cut those in half after baking to form the triangles that fit better into the muffin papers. I stacked those in a plastic container which I put in the freezer - it never actually "freezes" because of the butter/sugar content. I take out a little as I need it and it's ready to serve in no time! (yes, I take out a piece once in a while and microwave for 10 seconds - heaven!)Thank you to those who pointed out that you should cut almost to the bottom but not all the way!

Dirty Martini Cheese Spread

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
I followed the directions exactly, and the spread was way too thin. I added another 8 oz package of cream cheese and that fixed the consistency problem. After letting it sit overnight, I found the vodka taste to be too strong the next day. I might try to make it again with less vodka to see if it's just my taste that's off, but I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

I have used this recipe several times for family and church and it always gets rave reviews. I do cut down on the syrup if I'm using maple-flavored as opposed to real maple syrup as the artificial kind can be too sweet. Best served warm!

This has got to be by far the best loaf of bread I have made! I did not use a bread machine, just made it the old fashion way, also did not braid the dough, made it into a loaf, It raised wonderfully , the texture and taste were beautiful. This is a real keeper No doubt I will make it again and again,

Manicotti Alla Romana

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
This was delicious and a major hit with the family. Based on earlier reviews, I did make some changes. I used sweet Italian sausage in place of ground beef. I added 1 tbsp parsley and 1 tbsp basil to filling mixture. I used light cream in place of half and half, as I didn't want to risk added sweetness from the half and half (a problem I have had with other recipes). I also added about 1 tsp basil to the white sauce and only 1 tbsp chicken bouillon granules. For the red sauce I used my husband's homemade pasta sauce, which is a meat sauce with ground turkey. Again, my family LOVED this (husband, 2-year-old daughter, 4-year old son, and in-laws). Served with Roasted Garlic Bread from this site (a MUST try), and a simple side salad. Will make again!
