Steak Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2008
This steak sauce came together in a flash, and was DELICIOUS to boot. I'm a huge fan of A1, but it just cannot beat this homemade sauce, even though it's made with simple ingredients. My kids and I couldn't get enough of it! My husband liked it too ...:) Thanks for this amazingly amazing recipe!

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2008
Never having a Snickerdoodle before I was uncertain but 1900 people can't be wrong so I just made two batches for a cookie swap and they are Marvelous! I took the advice and substituted 2 Teaspoons of lemon juice for the cream of tarter as I didn't have any. I also made sure the butter and eggs were room temp before using. They came out so fluffy and wonderful, I'm hooked. Thanks Beth and all the other helpful reviewers. Keep on cooking.

Shepherd's Pie VI

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2008
I loved this. Perfect for a cold winter night. I followed the recipe pretty much as is, but chose to use frozen corn instead (that's how my Dad made it growing up.) I also didn't have any flour, so I held back on the broth and ketchup so it didn't turn out too soupy. Good stuff!

Spiced Butternut Squash Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2008
These were great! I had some butternut squash leftover from Thanksgiving, so I decided to try this recipe, and I'm so glad I did! I followed the directions exactly, but I did drizzle a very easy icing over the tops once they were cool (1 cup of confectioners sugar mixed with 2 tablespoons of milk and 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla). The icing was perfect with them, since the muffins aren't overly sweet. My whole family really enjoyed them! Thanks for a great recipe!

Slow Cooker Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2008
This stuffing came out awesome! I made it even easier to prepare doing the following: I used 2 16 oz. boxes of Bell's original stuffing mix, and I omitted the dry spices/seasonings (they were already in the stuffing mix). I also sauteed my veggies in the butter the night before, and tossed them together with the stuffing mix in a large bowl. I refrigerated that overnight. Thanksgiving morning, I mixed in the eggs and about 4 cups of chicken broth, put everything in the crock pot, and cooked it on low for about 5 hours. It was perfect, and everyone loved it! Thanks for a great recipe!

This chicken was so good! It was DEVOURED by my husband, 4 kids, and myself. It was so quick and easy to throw together, and extremely flavorful and moist. I didn't change a thing, and this recipe is definitely going into our rotation! Thanks!

All American Roast Beef

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2008
I followed the recipe to a T, however, I added a few Teaspoons of water to the bottom just to give the juices a head start. Well I should have added more becuase there really weren't any juices till I started slicing the meat. While the meat was very juicy I didn't have any drippings to make the gravy. I made that from scratch using "D's Skillet Gravy" featured on here. I did find the meat to be a little tougher but I think it's because of the cut of meat (Eye Round)I would suggest using a 1/2 cup of water next time. I will make again for sure! Thanks for the EASY recipe.

I use the meatball recipe all the time. It is great just as is. The sauce recipe is a little sweet for my taste so I cut that in half. Overall a great recipe that I will continue to use for years.

Fantastic. If you have the time, use real crumbled bacon...if you don't have the time, you can omit it completely and it still tastes unbelievable.

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2008
These cookies came out great! My only issue is that they are a little bit too "salty"...I'm assuming that's from the 2 teaspoons of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of salt. I do love the combination of salty and sweet, but the saltiness was just a tad overpowering. I'll make them again, and probably only use 1/2 tsp. of salt. Other than that, AWESOME cookies! Thanks for the recipe! :)

Caramel Apple Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
This is a fantastic recipe even if you follow the directions as is. But like everyone else, I have my own version... I like extra sauce because we are dippers. I also don't bake the chops I keep them covered in the Microwave (Not cooking, just resting) while cooking the apples, then I add it all together and zap it in the Microwave for about a minute just to give the chops a brief waming then it's ready. This way the chops don't dry out. Nothing worse than dry porkchops. I serve with White rice and garlic butter steamed green beans.

Yummy Honey Chicken Kabobs

This didn't turn out so well for me. I followed the marinade to a T, but decided to make it into a stir fry instead of kabobs. The marinade just tasted like vegetable oil with a hint of honey.

Slow Cooker Creamy Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2008
This was really good. I don't know what happened to those who thought theirs was too thin-mine was almost too thick. I will have to thin the leftovers.I browned the bacon, then cooked leeks in the bacon grease. I added the leeks along with the bacon grease, keeping the bacon out to add when I served it. I also used fat-free half-and-half.I also used a box of chicken broth instead of the concentrate and water.

Pumpkin Bread IV

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2008
So good! I used up the last of our homemade pumpkin puree (soooo easy to make...Cut the top off, cut pumpkin into wedges, clean out the "guts" and seeds....no need to be perfect...roast the wedges at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. Then, use a serrated knife to peel away the skin. It will come off so easily. Mash the pumpkin, adding a little water at a time to get the right consistency, then use or freeze it in freezer bags....WHEW! That was a lot of typing!). Anyhoo, this was some delicious pumpkin bread...One of the best recipes I've ever used. I substituted about 1 1/2 tablespoons of pumpkin pie spice for the cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. I also added about 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, and it was so yummy! Thanks for an awesome recipe!

Salsa Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2008
This recipe is awesome! I changed it up a little (okay...maybe a lot), but my inspiration came from the original recipe. First, I used 6 boneless/skinless chicken breasts instead of 4. I coated the chicken with 2 standard-sized packets of taco seasoning (I used "mild", and it had just the right amount of heat for our family), and I threw the chicken in the crock pot, along with about 2 cups of "medium" salsa. I sprinkled about a teaspoon of Goya brand Adobo over everything, and let it go for about 3 1/2 hours on high. Then, I shredded the chicken up using 2 forks, added 2 packets of Goya brand Sazon and 2 regular sized cans of chicken broth, and stirred it all together. I let it cook on high for 30 minutes more, then we had the mixture over white rice with canned sweet corn. It was LOVED by all of us! Thanks so much for sharing!

Paul's Pumpkin Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2008
Yummy! My 4 sons and I made these together, and we followed the recipe ALMOST exactly. The only thing we did differently was that we used fresh pumpkin puree, which we prepared earlier in the day. We measured out 15 oz. of the puree (since the directions were to use a 15 oz. can). The mixture was a little bit more watery then it would have been using the canned stuff, so we just baked it about 20 minutes longer. It came out absolutely delicious. The frosting/icing is a perfect compliment to all of the other autumn flavors going on in the bars/cake (we baked it in a 13X9 pan, so ours came out more cake-like). Thanks for the recipe!

Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2008
First off, I only used 1/4 of the oil. I also added 2 tablespoons of flax seeds to make it a bit more healthy, and also added about a teaspoon of cinnamon, and some quick oats to top the muffins before baking. They came out great! Super subtle sweetness. I made the mistake of using milk chocolate chips, which I now understand sink to the bottom of the muffin. But it's like an added surprise.
