Chicken and Bacon Shish Kabobs

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
I adjusted this recipe to the ingredients I had on hand. I kept the marinade the same and used Chicken wrapped in bacon, strawberries, onions & pinapple. I marinated these over night and have to say they were the BEST kabobs we've ever had. Suggestion... when cooking them on the grill only cook on the top rack till they are almost done then put them on the bottom rack to crisp up the bacon. Will absolutely make these again!

Honey Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
This is the way fruit salad should be served. With no yogurt or other distracting flavors. This recipe is perfectly light and flavorful. Myself and my guests all loved it and everyone wanted the recipe. I used 1 catalope, 1 little pkg of blueberries, half a lb. of green grapes sliced in half, 2 small bananas, 1 pint of strawberries halved. After slicing the bananas I coated them in lemon juice (to keep them from browning) in a small bowel mixed the honey and lemon jiuce as stated in the recipe and then poured over the fruit, mixed well and served about an hour later. It was so fresh and a perfect ending to our first real bbq in March. Will absolutly make this again! Next week in fact.

Onion Cucumber Salad

I have made this before omitting the peppers and using a 2 red onions and it is amazing. The red onion gives it a nice color. Next time I make it i'll submit a picture. Very refreshing for a transitional dish after a hearty foods all winter.

Orange Chicken Stir Fry

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2009
Strong orange flavor, and hubby didn't care for that. I personally loved it but he wouldn't eat it. The only change I made was not putting in the orange zest as I didn't have any on hand. Plus I used olive oil insted of veg. oil to saute the chicken. To bad he didn't enjoy it because I would've made this again.

This was a funky texture, so unusual that I can't tell if I liked it. I love cake so i hate to say I didn't like it but it was very dense. I don't think I'll make it again. My picture is a photo of this cake. It looked great. Thanks for the recipe, It wasn't bad just not my favorite.

Hamburgers and Ketchup Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2009
Surprisingly it was pretty good, very flavorful. I didn't chnge a thing! I too did have a problem with the burgers staying together but I think it was because it was previously frozen hamburger, maybe to much moisture. I will make this again. Thanks for the recipe.

Butternut Squash Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2009
I have to say FANTASTIC! This dish was so good paired with a pork tenderloin. I like others, had to improvise, instead of vanilla wafers (I didn't have on hand) I used 1 cup of frosted flakes with half the brown sugar and melted butter. I also used a little smaller casserole dish as suggested by other reviews. My guests and husband were so impressed. Thanks so much for a great recipe.

Seasoned Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2009
These were "eh". Followed the recipe, tasted like onion soup burgers- not necessarily a good thing. They were juicy though, which I think came from the egg. I'll look elsewhere for a turkey burger recipe next time.

Spicy Black Bean Cakes

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2009
WOW! These were amazing! I made these Friday night and by Saturday afternoon they were gone! My boyfriend and sister ate them all! I made a second batch Sunday and froze them so I could have them for my lunches. I also loved the sour cream mix, but my sister preferred salsa with it. I cooked them on the stove top, only because the second I turn on my broiler the fire alarm goes off :( I also followed others advice and used two eggs- they were perfectly moist! Aside from that I followed the recipe exactly. I'll be making these again!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2009
This didn't turn out so well for me. I underestimated the size which left me with essentially a loaf of bread with a thin layer of toppings. The crust tasted good and I'll try this recipie again, next time making two large pizzas.

Baked Lemon Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
This had great flavor, but was soggy. I used Panko instead of regular bread crumbs, but I don't think that would've effected the crispiness of the chicken. Maybe I'll try pan frying it next time...

Cranberry Orange Loaf

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
AMAZING! I doubled the recipe and it was enough for one regular size loaf, a mini loaf and 6 big muffins. I was worried it was going to come out a little dry, but as soon as you take a bite with a cranberry it just bursts with flavor and moistness (is that a word?). I was also a little short on the orange zest but it had plenty of orange flavor. I noticed some reviewers chopped up the cranberry's, but I think keeping them whole is the best way to go. They really just burst with flavor when you bite into them! I'll be making this again. :)

Basil Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
I followed some others advice to cut down on the fat by using half and half and only 6T of butter....my advice: stick to the recipe! It came out like spaghetti sauce. I think it would have been much better had I used full fat cream. It was also way too acidic. I added more sugar but it didn't seem to help. I'll try this again, this time sticking to the recipe. I'll use the stuff I made to put on some pasta!

Banana Nut Bread Baked in a Jar

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
I made this for Christmas gifts for my family. I stuck right to the recipie with one exception. I'm not a huge clove fan so I only put in 1/2 the amount it called for- that made it perfect for me! (I also used walnuts instead of pecans. Next time I will add more nuts as it was a little light on nuts for my taste!) The only major issue I had was finding the right size jar. I went to two craft stores and finally settled on a jar that was a pint and had a small lip. Because of this I had to double the recipe and I still didn't have quite enough batter for all 8 jars. I did a test run with one of the jars and I filled it up a little bit more than halfway at 325 for 55 minutes. It came out perfectly! Some of the other loafs were smaller, but that didn't matter much. Everyone loved them and was so surprised! I added a cute note "Warning: avoid initial urge to break jar. To eat: cut length wise and remove. Enjoy!" I'll definitely try this method again with different kinds of breads.

Steak Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2008
This steak sauce came together in a flash, and was DELICIOUS to boot. I'm a huge fan of A1, but it just cannot beat this homemade sauce, even though it's made with simple ingredients. My kids and I couldn't get enough of it! My husband liked it too ...:) Thanks for this amazingly amazing recipe!
