Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
I made some changes to throw it together with what I had. I didn't have dijon mustard, so I used a little honey mustard, and I used crushed sailor boy pilot bread. It turned out really crunchy and moist on the inside. Will make again!

Frank's Famous Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
As is not close to a 5 star. make a few changes and it could well be a five star recipe. Something I learned from the Italian wife of my brother, while sauting the onions and peppers, added the tomatoe paste and cook it till it starts to gets dark. This will add a great deal of charater and flavor to the finished sauce. I also used only freash herbs. I add the basil and oregano during the last 15 to 20 minutes of cooking because the herbs will have their flavor cooked out if left too long; this way the herbs will still have that bright fresh zing to them.

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
What is it with potatoes in a Chicken Pot Pie? The addition of poultry seasoning is a must. I used just over a 1/4 teaspoon of , but I also added Savory. This really enhanced the flavor of the slow roasted herbed baked chicken I used. Instead of boiling the carrots I added them to the saute first then the onion and celery, a classic mirepoix. I added a bit more butter then the flour to make the roux. I also added 1/4 cup of white wine. I did away with use of a bottom crust and just used a top crust. It was an outstanding pot pie. I have also used a puff pastry to top the pie with great success. To me the greatest thing about Allrecipes is that I can find great starting points and then run with them. Saves so much time rather than trying to creat from scratch. There are a lot of real good people and cooks on this site, my love and thanks to you all.

Cranberry Surprise Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2009
I make this every thanksgiving, for years now. It's sweet and tart at the same time, super easy to make, and tastes delicious with some vanilla ice cream! I'll try to remember and take a photo of it next week when I make it again… everyone's looking forward to it… I usually have to make it again the next day after because we can't get enough! :)

Banana Sour Cream Bread

This was pretty good, I would not say it was the best. I followed the directions exactly, EXCEPT that I baked it at 325 degress for 1 1/2 hours (as suggested by another reviewer). Next time I make Banana Bread I will certiainly try out a different recipe.

Breakfast Pies

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
If I could give these 3.5 stars, I would. Three seems too few, four is too generous! My middle- and high-school aged kids are always running late & complain when I "make" them eat breakfast. These are a quick & easy solution for them to heat & eat on the go! I used 2 pkgs of store-brand biscuits since I read on here to avoid Pillsbury b/c they rise too much, but these did too despite my flattening them and trying to create a pocket for the fillings. Because I had 20 pcs of dough & 24 cupcake openings, I took a few and halved them as someone suggested. I will definitely do that next time as the full-dough ones didn't allow enough egg mixture. I used one roll of turkey sausage with green & red peppers and onions. For 24 "pies" I could only use (fit) 6 eggs (with 6 T milk) without fear of spilling over while baking, which some still did. Also, all 5 of us feel these are a little bland. Perhaps it's the store dough, but the idea itself is great and worth the tweaks -- especially since the kids now have something hot & easy to help start their day. *ALSO! Be sure you spray the muffin tins well. I thought I did, but they still stuck - a lot! :\

Hot Dog a la Potato

I just made this for my son for supper last night. I used shredded cheddar cheese and shredded mozzarella cheese instead. He loved it, I made 4 thinking he'd have 2 left over for today's lunch but no chance, he ate all 4 of them. He's a wicked fussy eater but loved these.

Eggplant Parmesan II

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
Never thought a Baked Eggplant could be so cruchy! This is the only way we'll have Eggplant Parmesan now! Very light and not as heavy. We did change ours a little. We used Panko instead of bread crumbs then after baking the Eggplant we rolled them and stuffed them with ricotta and fresh parsley then topped them with fresh basil. Can't wait to make these again!!

Flourless Chocolate Cake II

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
I made this last nite for my friend's birthday. Most recipies for flourless chocolate cake look really hard, but that's what he wanted...then i found this one! I used a 9 in springform pan, so the 30 min bake time was perfect. I used semisweet chocolate chips instead of squares, but that seemed to work well. I'm not a big flourless cake fan but the birthday guy loved it and so did our other roomie! I reccomend this it was very easy.

Lebanese-Style Red Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
Very good! I decided not to puree the soup because the texture reminded me of split pea soup, which we like. If I make it again, though, I think that I would puree it per directions. The flavor is very lemony, which we liked, but I would caution you to use less if you do not like a strong lemon flavor.

Butternut Squash with Onions and Pecans

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
Spectacular! Made exactly as directed this recipe is perfect! It is a unique way to cook butternut squash, and it was a wonderful complement to herbed pork roast from this site. For those concerned about peeling a squash, I find that cutting a one inch piece from the top and bottom of the squash for stability makes it very easy to use a serrated vegetable peeler for the task.

Herbed Pork Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
Moist and superbly flavored, this pork roast was a huge hit at my house. I rubbed the roast with a small amount of olive oil to help the herbs adhere to it and refrigerated it overnight. Accompanied by Butternut Squash with Onions and Pecans from this site, fresh green beans and homemade applesauce, this was a meal I would enjoy serving to guests. Leftover roast was delicious lightly warmed, topped with applesauce, and served on focaccia bread. I almost want to make this again just for the sandwiches!

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
This was soooo good, but I can't rate it a 5, because I don't think it would have been nearly as tasty without following the suggestions of the #1 reviewer here, "Chuck". I made this recipe based on his review... the only thing I would change is to cut the ketchup, A-1 and worcestershire sauce by half, as it was too strong with a whole TBSP of each
