My family loves this recipe, even my picky husband. I omit the mustard and ues 1/4 less extra sharp chees. In its place I add 1/4 cup orange chedder. So creamy right off of the stove top!MMMM!

Simple Chicken and Noodles

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2009
This is NOT a simple recipe. It messed up the whole kitchen, took most of the afternoon, the noodles were like long, thick dumplings, the soup was fatty, and frankly, I prefer Campbell's. Skip this one.

Split Pea Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2008
The first time I made this, I followed the recipe exactly, minus the celery. Everyone liked it, but I had never had pea soup and I wasn't wild about it. Since then I have tweaked it and now I love it, along with everyone else in the house. I don't soak the peas overnight, and I don't think it matters either way. I use beef stock instead of water and omit the salt. I have never used the celery. I add LOTS of garlic powder. The most important change is that I dice up a lean ham steak instead of using a ham bone. It adds some nice, lean ham to the soup without the hassle or fat from a ham bone. Having made it with the ham bone and without, I don't think it makes a big difference. I have to say I get raves about this and my young daughter absolutely loves this. I usually make a double batch because we love it so much.

Banana Muffins II

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2008
Great recipe after some changes. I added a dash of vanilla and probably about a cup of walnuts. These weren't quite as big as I like, so I'll probably make 1.5x the recipe next time, so I get those nice pretty crowns that I love on my muffins.

Big Al's K.C. Bar-B-Q Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
Without a doubt the best barbecue sauce recipe I've been able to find. I added 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard, and 1/8 cup worcestshire sauce to make it fit my taste a little better, but very, very good.

BBQ Pork for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
I have made pulled pork dozens of times, but have never added beef broth. This makes a WORLD of difference - absolutely exceptional recipe. I didn't use ribs, but used an inexpensive pork roast, with the fat trimmed, and it was still very tender.

This recipe was so easy to make and turned out great! We have frequent brunches and this will become a staple at those get togethers. I added raw baby spinach and mixed it in with the bread cubes. Very flavorful

Cathy's Banana Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2008
This recipe is AWESOME!! I have tried to find a good banana bread recipe for years but so many of them turn out dry and the one's that were moist had so much butter/oil in them I felt guilty eating them. The sour cream in this recipe keeps the bread moist and helps balance the sweetness. I substituted the margarine for the same amount of salted butter and omitted the 1/4 t salt. I only used 1 C of sugar and it was plenty sweet. Mine was cooked in 40 minutes so be sure to check it early :) Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

This is a GREAT recipe. It was quick, easy, and so flavorful! I used an extra half cup or so of breadcrumbs to get it to stick together better. We froze the other two and I'm looking forward to seeing how they do when we heat them up.

The Best Vegetarian Chili in the World

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2008
This is the best chili I've ever had! I put in pinto beans as well as the beans suggested and also added zucchini and summer squash to the recipe. I also used frozen corn rather than canned, and for the canned tomatoes, I bought the fire roasted variety. Original recipe calls for 2 green peppers, I put in 1 green, 1 red, 1 orange and 1 yellow. WONDERFUL!!!! For a protein I used Quorn grounds sauteed in Worcester sauce. Fed it to my co-workers and they raved about it for ages! Will definitely make again!

Tiramisu Cheesecake

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2008
YUM!!! I made this for my husband's birthday (his favorite desserts are Tiramisu and Cheesecake) and it was a huge hit. I agree that it doesn't taste all that much like Tiramisu, but the flavor is terrific. Added Vanilla wafers to the lady finges and that was tasty. Thanks for a great recipe.

Spaghetti Carbonara II

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2008
Spaghetti carbonara is possibly my all-time favorite food. This recipe is good, easy, and true to the principles of the dish: eggs, parmesan, fatty pork, and pasta. I recommend sauteeing the onions until they are super soft. Rich (I get the feeling this is an Americanized version of the dish) but good.

Easy Paella

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2008
I liked this, and I had three guys helping me making it, which cut down on the prep time. We went to the Mexican grocery market for fresh chorizo, and bought saffron boles there as well. (Thanks to the reviewer who pointed me to Mexican saffron! Or azafran, as the package label calls it.) We steamed mussels and added those. Yummy. You can also add the steamed "juices" from the shellfish to the paella sauce, if you so desire. The rice turned out wonderfully. I gave this whole recipe four stars as I wasn't thrilled with it necessarily, but it was good and certainly worth making. The rice was five star rice for sure.

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2008
I changed this recipe to make it veggie friendly. I mixed up the sauce (YUM, so good) and instead of chicken I used Morningstar Farms Chick'n Patties (4) cut into strips. I baked them until crispy, according to package directions, and then tossed them in the sauce. Served with celery and bleu cheese dressing. Very tasty!

Eggplant and Pepper Parmesan Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2008
The first time I made this, I followed the recipe exactly. Then I made it again (because it was so good) and I omitted the Parmesan cheese and added baby spinach, then I put it all on focaccia and baked it at 300 for 5 minutes to warm it up. Yummy! My new favorite sandwich.

Mock Chicken

I found the consistency of this really spongy and wet. I'm not sure if we were supposed to press it for a longer period of time to get most of the water out, but it wasn't what I expected.

Tofu Sandwich Spread

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2008
This was a good recipe. We put the spread in pita pockets with lettuce and mustard. I think next time we'll either add mustard to the recipe, or perhaps Naysoya Dijonayse, which is a bit tangier. Overall the recipe was simple to make and great tasting!

Angie's Dad's Best Cabbage Coleslaw

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2008
I loved this recipe, and I love the fact that it keeps for a while too. I changed the ratio to make it for 6 instead of 20. I used a bag of cole claw mix, and added a shreadded carrot, onion, and celery. It was light and tangy. Thank you for the recipe!!!
