Skillet Ham, Cabbage and Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
The person who wrote this recipe must have a much bigger skillet than me! I used a large cast iron skillet (12 or 14 inches in diameter) and it was not big enough. The onion and potatoes and ham filled it up, so I had to make the cabbage seperately. Still, once mixed all together, it was very tasty! I used more than a dash of seasoning salt, also added regular salt and pepper and a bit of garlic salt. I also used olive oil rather than butter, and needed more than 1/4 a cup of water even though i cooked the potatoes for a few minutes in the microwave before adding them to the skillet.

I love this recipe. I followed this recipe almost word for word. I only change to things I added potatoes and use beef broth instead of water. Great recipe.

Kickin' Collard Greens

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2008
We were given a whole turkey for thanksgiving and had no idea what to do with it. My husband loves greens, so I decided to mix it up. Instead of bacon I boiled the leg of the turkey till the meat fell off the bone. I used ready to use chicken broth (bought accidentally)so I didn't have to add salt, and I didn't skimp on the pepper flakes. My husband moaned through the entire meal.

Big Al's K.C. Bar-B-Q Sauce

Without a doubt the best barbecue sauce recipe I've been able to find. I added 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard, and 1/8 cup worcestshire sauce to make it fit my taste a little better, but very, very good.

BBQ Pork for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
I have made pulled pork dozens of times, but have never added beef broth. This makes a WORLD of difference - absolutely exceptional recipe. I didn't use ribs, but used an inexpensive pork roast, with the fat trimmed, and it was still very tender.

Portuguese Sweet Bread I

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2007
I followed this recipe exactly, but found that it doesn't state what size loaf this makes so i was not sure of what setting to choose on my bread machine (1lb, 1.5 lb or 2 lb) I went with the middle ground and chose 1.5 lb but found that it didn't cook quite long enough, so I think the 2lb loaf selection would have been a better choice. Because it didn't cook quite long enough it did come out a bit doughy, but the flavor was still wonderful and I think that the next time I make this, using the 2lb option, that it will be perfect. Thanks for a great recipe!!

Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2007
Oh my goodness, this soup was delicious! I used leftover chicken from a chicken I roasted the night before and added carrots (that I boiled for a bit before adding to the chicken, broth, water, and rice). Otherwise I followed the recipe exactly and it was PERFECT. Very creamy and tasty. I will be making this every time I have leftover chicken, which is every 2 weeks or so. Thank you for such a great recipe!

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2007
I followed this recipe exactly, except that I used light butter instead of margarine. I don't know if my butter was too soft, or if I stirred the ingredients a bit too much (and my daughter, who helped me and insisted on sirring a lot) but the batter was too thin and gooey to be rolled into balls. So, I plopped the batter by the spponful onto the cookies sheets and sprinkled with the sugar & cinnamon mixture. The flavor, taste, and texture is still delicious, but it is surely not how I expected it to be, especially after seeing the photos here, and also knowing what snickerdoodles should look and taste like. I will save this recipe and try again, maybe using margarine, or regular butter, and not letting the butter soften as much, and also not stirring so briskly. Thanks for the great recipe!

Broccoli Cheese Soup V

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2007
This was my first attempt at making any type of soup and it came out wonderfully! My husband and kids all loved it! The only change I made to the recipe was I used 1 lb of Velvetta and 1/2 lb of shredded sharp cheddar cheese. The flavor was perfect and the color was beautiful. It made a lot of soup so there are plenty of leftovers...which I love! Thanks so much for this recipe, I will be making this all winter long!

Banana Bread V

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2007
Followed the recipe exactly as it reads and it was delicious. Not dry at all. I did sprinkle a tiny bit of brown sugar on top, just to add a little more sweetness in each bite. Recipe does not state baking time, so I checked it often. It ended up taking about 1 hour and 10 minutes to bake. Very good banana bread. Thank you!

To Die For Fettuccine Alfredo

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2007
I have never made homemade alfredo before and was worried it would come out horrible, but I was so happy with the outcome! I accidentally bought whipping cream instead of heavy cream (though I am not sure of the difference) but it still tasted delicious! Other than that mix-up, I made it exactly as the recipe says. I am adding this to our family favorites and will make it often!

Peanut Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2007
I just finished making these and all I can say is...WOW! These are great! I did nothing to change the recipe, though I did sprinkle a bit of brown sugar on top of the muffins to give it a little crunchy sweetness on top. They are perfect. It made about 15 average sized muffins for me so next time I think I might double the recipe since I have a large family. Thanks for the great recipe, I will use it again!
