Mac and Cheese Henwood Style

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2009
This was a really nice mac and cheese recipe. I used more onion than called for (like 1/4 cup total), slightly more velveeta (for a more cheesier flavor) and after tasting it and deciding it needed a little something more, about 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic. Next time I will use fresh garlic (1-2 cloves), and cook it with the onions. When I first tasted the sauce on it's own I wasn't impressed, but once I added the noodles and baked it, the flavors melded perfectly. Don't be fooled by the amount of blue cheese used, you can definately taste it, but in a good way. I will use this recipe again from time to time for something different from the norm! Thanks for posting. :)

Authentic Middle Eastern Hummus (Chummus)

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2009
my first time making homemade hummus, this is so easy and very good. I think the cumin gives this recipe something special that I don't usually find in hummus. so delicious, I will make this again, although it will be awhile as this makes a TON! thanks for sharing!

Herbed Pork Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2009
5 stars, nothing less. I omitted the celery seed as I don't like the taste of celery but everything else was great, I think cooking the pork at a low temperature for a longer time leads to the juicy tenderness that is this recipe. definitely a keeper, thanks so much for sharing!

French Baguettes

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
I made this last winter to go with Sheperd's Pie. The flavor of this was really nice. I was a little dissapointed that it didn't have a nice crunchy crust and textured, chewy interior. Next time I will let it slowly rise in the fridge for at least a day (my favorite local bread has a 72 hr rising time). I'll also put a bowl of ice cubes in the oven while it's baking. A baking stone might also help?? Great recipe, I just want to keep tweaking.

White Chocolate Gorp

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
I'm not a huge fan of this (not a white chocolate lover), but I found it strangely addicting! Others also couldn't stop eating it. I did (approx) equal parts rice chex, cheerios, pretzels, cashews, peanuts, and regular and peanut m&ms. I also added about a tsp of peanut oil to the melted chocolate. Even 1/2 the recipe made a ton!

Delicious! I used 1 cup of Vitamin D milk and 1 cup of heavy cream. Also used mushroom gravy mix. Even non-soup eaters loved this.

Easy Beef and Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
I have been making this recipe for a while now and love it. I pretty much make the stove top version of this because I don't like to microwave meet and I rarely use instant rice. I also use the low fat/low sodium versions of the soups, and have used cream of muchroom in it as well. All variations of it taste great and my bf LOVES it as well, which means it's a definite keeper!

Raspberry Ribbons

These are delicious! We made them for my cousin's wedding and they were a huge hit. We did some with raspberry, some strawberry and some apricot. I think for Christmas I'm gonna try pineapple and orange marmalade. This will be a new cookie staple! Thanks for posting. :)

Sarah's Applesauce

This is the second time I made this and it was COMPLETELY different! This time, I loved it. I used a pumpkin pie spice instead of straight cinnamon and it was AWESOME. It is good warm or cold and is like a delicious apple pie filling!

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
I made this last week with the intention of using it for turkey sandwiches all week. When I took it out of the crockpot - it was literally falling apart. So I had to try it. Then my son had to try it. Then the fiance. We stood there nibbling on it until it was half gone. So we only had turkey sandwiches for one day! Thanks for an easy, tasty recipe!

Old-Fashioned Soft Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
Sorry, but definitely not a keeper recipe. I would classify this cookie as a "sinker". Just made these last night because I'm trying to find a recipe that is similar to my Grandmother's sugar cookies. Was sadly mistaken. These cookies are more like biscuits than cookies - bland and dense. In working with the dough, it was extremely sticky while trying to spoon onto cookie sheets even though I had refrigerated it for a few hours. Secondly, you absolutely MUST spray the cookie pans or else be prepared to scrub pans. After the first bland batch, I increased the amount of cinnamon/sugar toping by 3X's. That at least helped to sweeten it up a bit. Was surprised at how bland these cookies taste once baked since the raw dough was decent to taste. If you do try to bake these, you may want to add another layer of flavor like almond or maple. Back to looking for a sugar cookie recipe that is closer to the awesome flavor of my Grandma's. Am happy to accept recipe suggestions!

Oven Pot Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
I usually don't make my roast in the oven unless I use a bag recipe. My husband loved this recipe, he raved for hours and then had seconds. My only changes were that I used 2 cans of Cream of mushroom soup, 3/4 cup white Port wine, 4 1/2 pound roast, 1 packet dry onion mix and seasoned the flour with garlic powder and season all season salt.

Classic Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2009
I doubled this recipe, so I can have some leftovers. A couple of changes I made: I added a packet of onion soup mix because I thought the recipe as it was written may have been too bland for my taste (hence the 4 star rating instead of 5). I also used cooked rice and a whole can of Hunt's spaghetti sauce, according to a few other reviewers' suggestions. All in all, it turned out very flavorful. I will definitely be keeping this recipe in my rotation.

Mushroom Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2009
Loved it! I used more mushrooms, garlic and onions than called for and it had great flavor. I also used olive oil and a little light butter to replace the regular butter. This beats ANY boxed rice mix and it's easy too! Thanks for posting. :)

Easy and Elegant Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2009
Very moist and tender. I seasoned with Salt, pepper and italian seasonings. The reason I gave it 4 stars (I wish there were 4 1/2) was when I cut the meat the "crust" fell off. It was sticky enough to stick to it to bake. I will make it again and and maybe add more oil. Thank you for a twist to pork tenderloin!
