Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The city that steel and railroad industries built has taken on a less gritty feel in recent years. Today’s Pittsburgh is clean and mod-looking with towering glass and steel skyscrapers laid out at the point (the Golden Triangle) where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers come together to form the Ohio. Before their industries collapsed, rich industry barons blessed the city with numerous architectural and other civic gifts like libraries and museums. These days, Steel City routinely ranks at the top of America’s most livable cities and is perhaps better known for producing ketchup and other condiments than steel. On weekends, head out to the Strip District (once the home of US Steel) for the farmers market. The South Side is home to many restaurants and bars. Drop by Primanti Brothers and tackle an enormous sandwich. Then work it off on the Southside Slopes, the neighborhood’s steep hills. Stair-climb to the top for sensational city views. Or if you’re too full to move, head over to the Monongahela Incline for a funicular rail ride up Mount Washington.

About me:
I just graduated from Penn State and had to relocate to Detroit Michigan for a job. Since I don't know too many people here yet, all I do on my time off is cook. When I get some free time at work I'm reading through recipes I want to try. My family is always cooking we almost never go out to eat. I have learned so much from my parents about cooking and I want to learn so much more.

Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed on jul. 4, 2009 by Christina
Absolutely FANTASTIC! These really made our 4th of July meal extra special. I opted to marinate them overnight and I'm glad I did. They were so flavorful, moist and tender. Hubby is already asking when I'll be making them again, so they are a definate keeper! Thanks for posting. :)

Simple Pasta Salad

Reviewed on jul. 2, 2009 by ShannyBanany
This was the first time I had ever made homemade pasta salad and I think it turned out pretty well. After reading some of the reviews I made it last night so it would have time to marinate before our cookout tonight. I tasted it after it was finished thought and it was really good! I used tri-color rotini noodles, 4 large red tomatoes seeded, 1 large cucumber, 1 head of brocolli chopped up, and then threw in some green and black olives and some mild pepper rings. I used fresh grated asiago cheese rather than the parm. It looked and tasted great and I know my guests will love it! Thanks!

Blueberry Drop Cookies

Reviewed on jul. 2, 2009 by ShannyBanany
These are really good. Not too sweet and a great way to use up some blueberries. Mine turned out just as I dropped them on the sheet and did not spread, which is fine. They were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside and had the distinct flavor of blueberry pancakes, lol, which is not a bad thing (in my opinion). The only change I made was using Splenda rather than sugar, adding 1/2tsp baking powder, and only refrigerated for about 2-3hrs. My taste testers liked them and I think they will make a nice dessert for our cookout tonight.
