About me:
I've been cooking since I was REALLY little, but now, being a college student and away from home, you're pretty much either stuck with fast food, or forced to teach yourself to cook. Since I have a kitchen and no spare money (my parents actually do my shopping for me) I have chosen to learn how to cook! And wow, I'm getting pretty good. I used to follow the recipe to a T, but I've come to a point where I can tweak things or make something entirely my own. It just took some time. ;)

Pumpkin Turkey Chili

Reviewed on Dec. 1, 2009 by BRIANNA170
The idea is a 5-star recipe ... it's full of fiber and lean protein. I gave it 4 stars because I had to suit it to my taste. My secret to making it perfect was adding milk. I loosely followed one of the other reviews and added a can of corn, a can of black beans, another can of tomatoes, a can of chicken broth, a couple Tbsp of honey, cilantro, cumin, and pumpkin pie spice. It was still just a little "off". So I added a big pinch of kosher salt and about a half cup of whole milk. The whole milk did it. It helped take it from a thick pumkin-y taste to a creamy & yummy taste. Even my husband liked it.

Smokin' Scovilles Turkey Chili

Reviewed on Nov. 24, 2009 by Amanda
First, I gave it four stars because I didn't make it exactly as-is. I adapted it according to the ingredients I had on hand. I left out the peppers, cumin, liquid smoke and hot pepper sauce. I substituted the turkey for beef, Worcestershire sauce for steak sauce, and the tomato sauce for tomato paste, but added more beer. The result was delicious! I let it refrigerate overnight, which I think helped the flavors blend together and keep the corn from tasting like, well, corn. The hubby raved, and he doesn't usually have much to say about my cooking. Will definitely use this (adapted) recipe again!
