Hummus III

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2008
This came out very well, but I gave it four stars for the same reason that most people put. I reserved the bean "juice" and had to add about a cup of it to get it creamier. It has thickened up quite a bit since being refrigerated. Other than that it's great!

Golden Pork Chops

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
Hmm. Where to start. I even went back and checked to see if I had messed something up. I hoped I had. I didn't. I followed the recipes to a T- except I used cream instead of golden. Too much soup. The chops were swimming in it. Pretty easy - and it tastes like it.

Oven Roasted Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
First, I followed this recipe - didn't add anything special. And I was quite disappointed to find that this is the same recipe from the back of the onion soup mix box! Anyway, the potatoes came out "fine." But the mixture didn't really do much for them. Pretty boring. Add your own seasonings or something. And if you're reading those other reviews that gave this 4 or 5 stars, it's because they added all sorts of other things and basically made their own roasted potatoes. I also had to individually take each piece off of the foil. *sigh*

Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2008
I've really been into using the oven lately because I like to forget about things while they cook. This was very simple and tasted like it wasn't. I used Italian breadcrumbs, and romano cheese, and the chicken didn't even need salt. I warmed up 3 large crushed cloves in oil, and it was plenty. I used 3 large chicken breasts and halved them. I added more cheese, but that's my preference. It came out great. VERY SIMPLE. Worth giving a try! Would be great as chicken parm, or in a sandwich or on a salad.

Ken's Spicy Curry Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2008
I have not made this recipe yet, but my husband loves panang curry chicken and has been begging me to try out a recipe. Has anyone considered adding lemongrass to this recipe? Our favorite local Thai place uses it in their curries and it gives the dishes that extra zip. Just curious. Thanks!

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2008
OH MY GOSH. I followed this recipe to a T, and it came out SO GOOD!!!!!!!! (Wait... I used Low sodium Soy, and 6 thighs instead of 12.) Ok, first, I don't really like chicken thighs, but it's all I had. I nuked some frozen broccoli and tossed it in the leftover juices. WOW. It's so good. I really recommend this recipe to anyone. I hate too many ingredients and using too many dishes and this one was so easy. I put foil in the bottom of the dish and cleanup was a snap. Don't get discouraged if the chicken and glaze looks to watery. By the 45-60 mins, it starts glazing up. SO GOOD!!! Thanks for sharing this recipe.

Chicken a la King II

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2008
This was pretty good. I added chopped onion and celery and sauteed. I also cooked the chicken breast in the boullion/water to help flavor it. I eyeballed the flour and made a roux type thing and also eyeballed the milk. Pretty good and pretty easy.

Biscotti

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2008
I was leery of using oil, because I heard biscotti should use butter, but they came out well in theory. I think the butter might give it a much better flavor and I'll try that next time. I used about 3 C and a tsbp flour. Very easy recipe. Texture was very nice. I, like many, did not have the anise. So I used half almond, half vanilla. I found the flavor lacking, and not quite sweet enough. The anise or some kind of toasted nut would probably help a lot. I know biscotti should have a mild flavor anyway, but I felt it did not compliment the flavor of coffee. The coffee almost emphasized the lack of flavor. But a very good biscotti "base" that I will experiment with.

Mock Tuna Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2007
This is similar to another chickpea recipe on this site. I changed the recipe a little bit- used light mayo, and added chopped celery and a sprinkle of garlic powder. Very similar to tuna, without the gross fishy smell! Not too shabby. :)

Vegetarian Chickpea Sandwich Filling

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2007
I'm very limited for options, being in Iraq right now- but this wasn't too bad at all! It was a little dry, but it definitely had the tuna/chicken/potato salad feel to it. Had it on toast- pretty good! Garlic salt might be a nice addition.

My parents and I sometimes eat out for Indian food like Naan but this recipe came out so good, I make it instead. We all LOVE it. The yeast was a little tricky but once you figure it out...it is SO sweet.

Down Under Lemon Tart

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2007
This is amazing. I'm not an amazing cook but it came out great. I made it for my mom on mother's day and ever since she's been asking me to make some more. One thing I did though was I diluted the lemon juice with water and used less lemon zest. But other that, simply delish! The crust especially is amazing. I make it like all the time just by itself! :D

Potato Latkes I

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2006
These taste really good but I didn't have peanut oil so I just used vegetable oil and it came out very well. And also I would add less salt and more onions. Try making it thinner and crispier. I think it tastes better that way. I used some other reviewer's suggestion to use an egg for every to cups if potato and they turned out great. Absolutely amazing!

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2006
I did like this pie, I thought the taste was good. I did make some changes. I did add some cinnamon to it, also a little vanilla extract. I followed the advice of others, instead of pouring all of the mixture on top of the pie, I did mix the apples in about half of the mix, then poured the rest over the top. My pie did come out a little runny, although I did add some extra flour. It tasted pretty good warm with some homemade vanilla ice cream!

Miss Beth's Yoghurt Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2006
It tasted OK. It did come out a little dense. I used the brown sugar/cinnamon variation. I think without it, the cake would have been too plain. I also used Vanilla flavored yogurt which did add some more flavor. Maybe I will give it another try with the other variations in one of the other reviews.
