Cream of Wheat Griddlecakes

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
These were pretty good pancakes. A nice little change from ordinary pancakes. They definitely taste a little different from the regular (sweeter) and are worth making again. My husband and baby liked them too.

Quick and Easy Brownies

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
I was not a fan of these. I'm not sure if I did anything wrong but they were not very fudgy or chocolatey. And 1/2 tsp of salt was too much (I definitely tasted the salt). I made them two days ago and the pan is still sitting on my counter with only the two brownies my husband I tried that day missing. = (

Best Ever Caramel Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
Four stars because it tastes good but I would make a few revisions next time. It was a little too mushy for me, the topping didn't have enough crunch and there was way too much caramel to drizzle on top of only an 8X8 pan of this. I had to save a good amount of it (not a problem since it would be great on ice-cream or for dipping apple slices). Next time I will try putting some of the caramel into the apple mixture, add walnuts, add more flour and lemon juice to the filling as other reviewers suggested and probably find another struesal recipe to top it with to see if its any better. Aside from the mushy gooey texture, it tasted pretty good though. Very sweet.

Delicious! I opted to not put in as much beef and added potatoes and stewed tomatoes as well as the diced. Very delicious!

The pepper filling needs a tad more salt but the sauce makes this unusual and satisfying.

Butternut Squash, Apple, Onion Au Gratin

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2009
The only modifications I made were using the entire bag of pre-grated cheese & vegtable broth (I didn't have chicken on hand). I took it to a dinner party & it won HUGE raves. A perfect autumn dish & adequate as a main course.

Stir-Fried Kale and Broccoli Florets

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2009
Really, really good. Would be 5 stars except I tweaked it at the suggestion of other posters. -One lime was -enough-...could potentially be good with only half too. -Steam the kale first! Didn't have any a pepper to spare so I used a dash of cayenne pepper.

Ooey-Gooey Cinnamon Buns

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2009
I changed it a bit, but it's an awesome recipe. Original recipe used only nuts, but since I only had dried fruit I used that. So my version has dried peaches, apricots, apples, pears and raisins. Instead of melting the butter to spread on the dough, I softened and mixed it with Parkay and spread it on like that so that the rolls would be soft. I've put up a picture of my finished version.

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
If you have any doubt, CHECK IT AT THE DOOR, and make this soup because it is amazing!!! If using Patti's suggestion of Bill Echol's Seasoning mix, you have to make about 1.5x the stated recipe to yield 1.25oz as called for by recipe. I used beer, nothing bitter about it. I also added about 2C chicken broth, only bc I wanted a thinner soup, not a thicker chili consistency. Of course I added more of the base ing. like paprika, salt, etc. but I recommend tasting it at the 5 hour shredding mark to see how to adjust to fit your tastes. My only wish* would be for the chicken to be flavored somehow prior to adding it in the mix. Maybe as leftovers it will absorb more of the flavor of the soup, but as is it tastes like excellent soup with really moist boiled/shredded chicken tossed in. Still the best soup I've had in awhile though!!!!

Sweet Russian Cabbage Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2009
4 stars from a Polish chef! This recipe is pretty authentic and close to home. I did not find it too sweet or too greasy, like many other reviewers. (Hello, it's called "Sweet" soup!) However, I only use ground chuck which is not as fatty as supermarket chop meat. I used only 3 bouillon cubes to cut down on salt, and it was just right. The next time I make this I will use chunks of meat instead of ground, as another reviewer suggested. My only advice is BIG pot!!! Thanks for sharing.

Honey Cornbread

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
I made these today and oh boy! I will NEVER buy another box of Jiffy. I did exactly as recipe called for except when they were almost done I put melted I can't believe it's not butter on top of each muffin. WOW! I will use this for my cornbread stuffing also. Went very well with my homemade vegetable soup. 5 stars could be more.

Sarah's Banana Bread Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2009
This is a great recipe for moist banana muffins. Instead of walnuts, I used about 1/2 cup of regular chocolate chips. I also added 1 tsp vanilla. They didn't need to be in the oven for the full 30 minutes - I took them out after about 25, and they were done. I am definitely going to use this recipe again. Thanks for sharing!

Crab Quiche

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2009
I've made this several times, most notably last night for my father and brother. Some of the filling bubbled over and my father scraped it off the cookie sheet and said if the quiche was as good as the spillage he couldn't wait to eat it. He loved it and complained that I hadn't made two! I used two green onions and real canned crab. It was a hit.

Ginny's Cauliflower and Pea Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2009
I made two changes to this: I used real mayonnaise because it has much less (& often none) sugar, and I couldn't find bacon bits so I used rather a lot of turkey bacon. I took this to a dinner & was told my my hosts that I was welcome ANY TIME...if I brought this salad. It is fabulous & I'm making it for my mother's wake tomorrow.

Spiced Plum Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2009
If I was able, I'd give this recipe a 3.5, but I'm leaning in favor of a 4 because there is more positive to say than negative. As other reviewers have said, 8 hours is way too long to cook the pork chops. I cooked mine for 6 and for the most part the meat was tender (if a side of the chop is sticking up over the cooking liquid, be sure to turn it frequently to prevent it from drying out). I was a little surprised at how mild a flavor the cooking liquid imparted on the pork chops. I was expecting to taste more of a plum flavor, but it hardly came through, which isn't a complaint as the spices tasted very good with the pork.

Orange Pork

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
4 stars for the concept and I made some minor changes. For the pork, I cut the chops into strips as others did, and for the sauce, instead of using water I used ginger ale and used brown sugar instead of white. Reduced the amount of sugar to counter the sugar in the ginger ale, and tripled the amounts for 3x the sauce.

Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2009
Just made the sauce, and it was alright. There needs to be some step that makes the sauce less chunky. However, sauces are HIGHLY subjective, and I am Italian, so what I rate a 3, you may love. I suggest trying as many recipes as possible to see what your preference is!

Steak Tips with Mushroom Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2009
Wow- I love this sauce! I had a really awful cut of meat, but the sauce was so good I licked my plate, a new low! lol I used green onions v shallots, white caps v portabellas, and cornstarch v flour. I held back some beef broth to whisk the flour in before adding to the sauce to prevent clumps. A must!!!!!
