BAKER'S® ONE BOWL Coconut Macaroons

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2009
I have made this twice now and each time everyone raves about them. It is so so easy! I used only a 1/2 tsp of almond extract and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract. As well as 3 Extra large egg whites. Really Good.

Billy's Favorite Smoky Collard Greens

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2009
Pretty good! My first time making it and I was impressed at how simple and economical it was. Taste quite close to the collard greens I get at my local Jamaican restaurant. I ended up tossing my finish collard greens (drained) with some Quinoa that had been also cooked with onion, garlic,a dash of ground cumin, a dash of ground pepper, and adobo sauteed in extra virgin olive oil. Delicioso!

Best Steak Marinade in Existence

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2009
I thought this was okay, not anything spectacular. I followed the recipe exactly and let 2 thinner steaks marinate in it overnight as well as the next day. (I flipped the steaks in the morning).

Apple Crisp III

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2009
I am eating this as I type. It is SO good! It smelled heavenly while it was baking. The hardest part is peeling the darn apples, but it is definitely worth it. I made double the recipe because I had a ton of apples that I didn't want to go to waste. Followed the recipe exactly and I am glad I found one that had everything I already had in the house. I will be making this again and again. Thank you!

Cream Soup Base

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
I had tried a cream of turkey soup from this site twice before with terrible results. The consistency and taste were never right no matter what I did. Using this as a base was exactly what I needed to get the flavor, color, and consistency just right. I added some turkey stock (fresh-made from a couple of carcasses I had), turkey meat, diced carrots, celery and a few other seasonings to this base and it came out so great. What's better is I messed up and added too much turkey stock at first, but this lent itself to "correction" very well whereas that other recipe did not. To fix, I took some of the soup into a bowl, thickened it with some flour and returned it to the pot. Consistency corrected without taking anything away from the flavor. This will be the base I use for all my creamy soups from now on. It erally is just perfect.

Warm Apple Buttermilk Custard Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
I'm not sure how anyone gets past the overwhelming sweetness to award this recipe so highly. I love sweet, and this was just too much for me; even my kids who are sugar crazed couldn't finish a small piece. I tried to scrape the topping off just to salvage the pie, but even then it was still difficult to stomach. I think if I made it again, I would leave off the topping(or cut sugar amounts in half) and use 1/4 cup sugar on the apples and 1 cup sugar in the custard. I'm wanting to give the recipe 2 stars, but feel that the pie would be really good if the sugar wasn't such a problem.

I feel awful giving such a bad review, but I followed this exactly and was very disappointed. My fish had zero flavor and we ended up giving it to the dog.

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2009
I made this for a fellow pregnant friend of mine (can't believe I didn't try some!). She raved about it! I consider her to be very picky when it comes to food, but she could not stop talking about this pie. The only change I made was to coat the apples with 1 TB of cinnamon before adding them to the pie. This was only my second time making a pie so I was pretty nervous. Can't wait to make this for myself :)

This was my first time making an apple pie and I am pretty impressed! I used Pillsbury Crusts to save time and my pie plate is small, so I used maybe 6 apples, but the same amount of sugar and butter. I really like it!

Tangy Cucumber and Avocado Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2009
I wanted to make just enough for two, so I used 1/3 large cucumber and 2 small avocados. I tried to have an equal ratio of avocado and cucumber. This is a refreshing tangy summer salad and a nice departure from lettuce or other greens. I didn't have green onions, so I used a small amount of chopped red onion, 1/2 lime and 1/2 small lemon. Amount of citrus can be adjusted to taste. Awesome salad!

Open-Faced Turkey Tacos

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2009
This was really good! I like stuff spicy, though, so I added a bunch of extra stuff-- onions, a lil chili powder, etc. I also added a lil shredded cheese to the turkey while it was still hot to make it melt a bit-- tasted really yummy! It was great on a taco, too! :D

One Bowl Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2009
The texture on these is great-- nice and chewy-moist with just enough crunch on the outside, but I'm afraid I didn't really find the flavor too outstanding. It kind of fell flat compared to many other brownie recipes I've tried. But it is good for a quick recipe, I'll give it that! :)

Panna Cotta

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2009
This was really really good. I actually only used 1c of heavy cream and used 2% milk in place of the rest of the milk and cream called for, only because thats all I had. It turned out perfect! So creamy and rich, you wouldn't think I had altered it at all. At least it was a little healthier I guess. I served it with slices of ripe strawberries. I'm going to try making a sauce with strawberries & brown sugar and see how that goes. I plan to experiment with this recipe. But awesome as is.
