Gourmet Root Beer Float

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2009
something about putting root beer and vanilla ice cream together is pure magic! I don't particularly like root beer or vanilla ice cream but when they are together yum!! I tried the whipped cream and cherry too which was a nice touch. thank you Lucinda!!

Linguine With Clam Sauce

Reviewed: May 30, 2009
This was excellent for a quick and delicious clam sauce. I added 1/4 c. of white wine to give it some tartness and balance the flavors. I let it reduce for a 1/2 hr. My husband and 9 year old son both loved it.

Apple Crisp III

Reviewed: May 28, 2009
This is delicious! I only give it 4 stars because my husband says he likes the topping to be a bit crisper (I did bake it for 50 mins). I used McIntosh apples, as they are the only apples I will buy. I also added cinnamon to the topping. That's the only thing I changed outside of the bake time. I served it with a little bit of evaporated milk poured on top. We're moving in a few days, and this was a perfect way to use up the rest of our apples. :)

Hawaiian Wedding Cake II

Reviewed: May 24, 2009
This is a great cake, but being the baker that I am, I had to make it my way, lol. I made a double batch because I am going to a big party tomorrow. I used 2 yellow cakes, used pineapple juice instead of water and added a 20 oz. can of drained crushed pineapple and about a cup of toasted coconut. I added it right to the cake batter and baked it in the cake. The cake is SOO moist! The rest I pretty much did the way the recipe called for. I also poked holes in the cake to let all the toppings sink right in. This cake is super delish!! Thanks for the recipe!

very yummy!! I browned the meat and then put the chicken broth in. I didn't use the skewers. The meat was tender, tasty and very easy to make. A winner of a recipe.

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: May 22, 2009
I followed reviewers's suggestions, including turning up the heat and cooking for a longer time - I ended up with something like bread pudding with a rubbery shell. However, because of all of the good reviews I will may try this recipe again. It seems like the happiest reviewers made only half a recipe. Probably next time I would make only half the recipe as the whole recipe is an awful lot to deal with if one is not satisfied.

Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: May 18, 2009
I just made this. The only change I made was using pumpkin pie spice instead of the individual spices. I just used a regular size can of pumpkin, didn't look at how many ounces it was. Either way, this is an awesome recipe! The flavor is great, and the texture is great. The only problem I had was the middle sunk in, so I'll tweak the recipe to avoid that next time. The top also got a bit too crunchy, so next time I'll cover the pans with foil for the last 15-20 minutes of baking. Even still, this is the best pumpkin bread I've ever had (or made). It's even better than my mother-in-law's!

These are perfect! I accidentally slightly over-baked mine, and they're still great! I love the fact that this recipe doesn't use cream of tartar, and that you don't have to chill the dough.

Peanut Butter and Banana Smoothie

Reviewed: May 12, 2009
After reading the reviews on this, I just had to try this (especially since I love PB and banana sandwiches). It's very different, but very good. However, I did make some changes based on what others said. First, I froze my banana overnight. I also added 2 ice cubes and a cup of milk (regular 2%). I added a little more PB (1/4 c.), and also threw in a packet of maple and brown sugar instant oatmeal (which I can't even really taste). After only a few sips, I'm betting this will be a very filling breakfast. My only complaint is I think there's a tiny bit too much PB, so next time I'll probably just stick with the amount the recipe calls for. Great recipe!

Apple Banana Smoothie

Reviewed: May 10, 2009
My husband and I liked this recipe. However, we did make some changes. First, we used 3 bananas and 2 apples, omitted the OJ, and didn't measure milk. Second, the bananas weren't frozen because I hate working with frozen bananas. The apples weren't peeled (didn't see the point) and they were McIntosh (matter of personal preference, those are the only kind of apples I will buy). Due to the bananas not being frozen, we threw in some ice (didn't measure that either, just kept adding some until it was thick enough) and we also threw in some honey. The end result is yummy. I'm drinking it now. :)

Rempel Family Meatloaf

Reviewed: May 7, 2009
We thought this meatloaf was just okay. It was a nice change, but I think I'll probably stick with the Betty Crocker one. I did make a few changes, but I don't think they would've made that huge of a difference. I used regular bread crumbs instead of crushed crackers, and used Worcestershire sauce instead of steak sauce (matter of what I had on hand). It was quite greasy, but the bread trick probably would've helped that.

Cheese Straws

Reviewed: May 3, 2009
Initially, these weren't really what I was looking for but that's my own fault for not thinking about the ingredients more carefully. I was looking for a crispy more butter cookie like texture and these are soft and more like small bread sticks. I realize now that's from the baking powder. I used garlic salt instead of regular and an additional cup of freshly grated sharp cheddar (didn't seem like enough cheese to flour for me initially). I rolled out and cut them to about pencil sized per the instructions and they took closer to 10 minutes to bake. The result was a soft, very cheesy small breadstick with just a hint of heat. They were quite good, just not what I had in mind. As I was going for a crispier result, I let them cool, turned them on their side, and put them back into a 300 degree oven for about 25 minutes (like you would with biscotti). It worked - light, flaky, crispy and cheesy little cracker like sticks.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough + Cupcake = The BEST Cupcake. Ever.

Reviewed: May 3, 2009
I ended up using a Devil's Food mix b/c I didn't have yellow on hand and they were still great. I used a store bought frosting and sprinkled the tops with a few chocolate chips. I think I ended up with 30 cupcakes. They were a hit and I'll definitely make them again.
