Aunt Cora's World's Greatest Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2009
The recipe is easy enough to prepare and the cookies are very good, maybe not the world's greatest, but good. However, the recipe neglects to instruct the baker to make small cookies. If you make scoop #20 or #30, only 4 cookies will fit on a cookie sheet. Also, I had to reduce the cooking time to 11 minutes. The cookies are brown and hard at the edges and they stick to the sheet even if you pre-grease the cookie sheet

It Won't Last Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2009
The very name of this cake convinced me to attempt to make it. I did -- and the entire family and now many of my friends love it!!! I made the cake in a bundt pan and it too came out dark, though I used bleached AP flour. I deviated from the recipe somewhat - adding a bit more banana, cherries and pecans. This cake is now one of those cakes that everyone is asking for at my home. Thanks for the recipe.

I made these cookies last night to include on my cookie platters. I found that the cookies were too big with the measurements given. I made my rectangles small and yieled more smaller cookies...they came out awesome! everyone loved them. they brown really fast so watch your oven. Yummy flavor. thanks for sharing!

Perfect Porterhouse Steak

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2009
I've been making my steak like this for years - any steak. I sometime use all of the ingredients (OO, tenderizer and steak seasoning) but mostly I just coat my steak with the seasoning (I use McCormicks Montreal Steak seasoning) I often leave out the tenderizer (you really don't need it) and depending on the cut of steak, I often don't use the OO - I prefer a nice rib-eye. I use a Forman Grille - preheated - rub the Montreal seasoning into the steak and then cook it for 6 min (EXACTLY) and you will get a fantastic med rare steak - perfect! As one other reviewer mentioned, letting the meat warm up to room temp - or close to room temp helps with the tenderness and I always let the steak sit for about 5 min before cutting it so the juices can soak back into the meat (ever have a steak where the first 2 or 3 bites were great, then it seemed too dry? That's why!) Thanks for the recipe

Soft Giant Pretzels

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
These pretzels taste GREAT and are so easy to make. The bread machine does all the work. The changes I made were to dip the pretzels in a mixture of warm water and baking soda. When done, I brushed them with butter and sprinkled with sea salt. My 8 year old granddaughter was visiting and she rolled little balls with the dough and named them "pretzel tots". They were perfect bite-size pretzels. Why didn't I think of that. Thank you Sherry Peterson for sharing such a GREAT recipe!

Buried Cherry Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
These cookies were really easy to make and I had everything already in the house which was nice. My kids weren't 100% thrilled by this recipe but I definitely enjoyed a dessert that went beyond chocolate chips and the combination of cherry and almond was delicious. Will be adding to my holiday routine definitely!!!

Pasta with Salami and Peas

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
This is a great quick dish. Because some others said it was a bit greasy, we cut down on the oil/butter - for two people we only used about 2 TBL oil and no butter. We also cooked the salami ahead of time, which made it crispy, which was a nice touch. We only cooked the peas for the last 3 minutes with the pasta, otherwise I think they would have been overcooked. This is a great tasting dish that is easy and I think it would be easy to add/sub different veggies depending on what you have on hand. I think next time I will add corn.

These were excellent! I cooked them different. i baked them in the oven because I didnt read the whole recipe that you had to slow cook them. so after i assembled them it was to late to throw them in the crockpot. i will make these again and slow cook them next time. aside from baking them i didnt change a thing.

Broccoli and Garlic Penne Pasta

This was really bland. It was missing something maybe alittle bit of salt. I added extra garlic but that was the only thing i did away from the original recipe. I will try to make this again but next time i'll make a few adjustments.

Foolproof Potato Latkes

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
Phenomenal recipe! My first time making latkes on my own and all my guests were raving. I don't own a food processor so I peeled and grated the potatoes and onion. I added a couple of dashes of pepper and garlic powder. The recipe made a lot, depending on how big your latkes are. I even sent someone home with the recipe. This is a holiday staple recipe for us now.

Charley's Slow Cooker Mexican Style Meat

Fantastic!! I used Cholula hot sauce (chili garlic blend) and the flavor was phenomenal. As others suggested, I put some beef broth in with the meat as well. This is the most tender and flavorful slow cooker recipe for shredded beef I have found!
