Spicy Lamb Patties

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2009
These were a great departure from beef patties...enjoyed the zing nicely tempered by the refreshing yogurt sauce suggested.

Artichoke Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2009
This was absolutely delicious, very juicy, very flavorful. I only had 1/4 cup of mayonaise left, so I used light blue cheese dressing to round it out. I used frozen artichokes and grated cheese and added a splash of lemon juice and a dash of garlic powder. I will make this again, it is a delicous but quick and easy entree for a busy night. I would recommend serving with a green salad and warm rolls for mopping up every drop of the delicious sauce. :)

Cabbage Patch Stew

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2009
OMG I can't believe I found this recipe here! This was a favorite that my grandmother used to make for us whenever we came to visit. She always topped it off with Bisquick dumplings when she made it, which was our favorite part for sopping up the sauce. I can't wait to make this for my son one day soon.

Roast Chicken with Rosemary

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2008
I made this recipe with the modifications suggested by other reviewers, namely adding lemon to onion and rosemary inside the chicken, rubbing the outside with oil, rosemary and lemon zest, and filling the pan with carrots, parsnips, and onions and pouring a couple of cups of chicken stock over it all and basting frequently. I also cooked the bird breast-side down. This was by far the best chicken I've ever eaten, the meat was very moist and flavorful and the aroma in the house while it was cooking was mouthwatering. I highly recommend this recipe!

Southwestern Green Chile with Pork Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2008
This looked like a cozy, warm dish for a winter afternoon, so I really wanted to make it. Problem was, I didn't have all of the ingredients. I compared what I had, versus what the recipe called for, and decided I had enough overlap to at least give it a shot. I used boneless country pork ribs. I didn't have green chiles, but I did have a can of salsa verde. To balance the tartness of the tomatillos I added parsnips and carrots. I used kidney beans instead of black beans and I added pepper flakes to give it a little heat, since I was missing the green chiles. I also had a chayote lying around, so I threw that in, too. It's different from the original, but very good. Definately a nice hearty one-pot dish perfect for a cold day. I'm giving it four stars, only because I didn't follow the recipe exactly. Next time I'm going to try to original version and maybe adapt it for the crock pot.

Sesame Tempura Green Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
Dan, this was soooo delicious! This is a new instant favorite at my house. I doubled your recipe and did a variety of veggies, string beans, asparagus, shitake mushroom caps, snow peas, and sweetpotato, and we had this as our main course for dinner this evening. I added a little powdered ginger to the dipping sauce, but it was just as yummy without it. We will be making this again . . and again . . and again. :)

Puffed Cauliflower Cheese

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2008
We really enjoyed this dish. My son ate almost the entire pan by himself. I didn't have cheddar in the house, so I used pepper jack instead. I'm planning to double the recipe and make a larger batch to take to a post-Thanksgiving family gathering.

Sweet Potato and Carrot Soup with Cardamom

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2008
Loved it, with minor adjustment. I also needed to add about 2 more cups of stock (veg was nice) to keep it from resembling baby food. Tried leftovers the next day adding a little coconut milk. Not bad, but I like it without better. Delicious, try it.

Coconut Curry Cabbage

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2008
We all enjoyed this curry. I was looking for something different to go with rice and Kahlua pork and it went well. I did leave out the cilantro as a favor to my son, but I'm sure it would taste great. I'm pleased to find a new cabbage dish; thanks!!

Italian Bread Using a Bread Machine

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2008
This recipe has consistently worked well for me. I use it all the time. It's soft and tastes great. Just a note if you're feeling creative, don't try putting too many sesame seeds on it like you see in Italian bakeries. They really overpowered everything. I have to think back to my childhood and remember if that was a heartier bread.

Love it! Love it! And we like mayo, too. It's a great all around dressing to doctor up or not. Do try it! Leftovers a long time in the fridge, too.

Yogurt Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2008
This recipe turns out well time and time again. I usually don't have lemon yogurt on hand. I use it when I do, but normally I use plain yogurt and double the amount of lemon extract. It's a winner; thanks for posting.

Butt Stompin' Barbeque Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2008
This sauce is terrific, with just enough heat to make it addictive! I was unable to find fresh habanero peppers so I used dried ones. The only mistake I made was to puree everything at the end since I was after a smooth basting sauce for baby back ribs. The aeration from the blender made the sauce lose it's slick, rich color, so I won't do that again. I will probably just dice the onion much smaller next time. These are not for the faint-hearted!

Soft Onion Sandwich Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2008
Oh, yeah! These rolls are the cat's meow, awesome, da bomb! I, too, have baked up many a disappointing batch of rolls. These are what I have been looking for. Nice with or without the onions on top. Try them with Dan's Favorite Chicken Sandwich from this site and some pan fried pickled jalepenos. Oh, WOW!

Portuguese Bean Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2008
I'd really like to give this a three and a half stars; my husband really liked it, I sort of liked it. It brought to mind my grandfather's habit of putting ketchup in his chicken soup. Why he would do that? I don't know. Anyway, it's a change of pace soup; something different with the beans, definitely spicy, and easy to fix.

Mom's Traditional Creamed Onions

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2007
Way too much watery sauce for the amount of onions called for. I'd use half the amount of liquid and maybe some dehydrated onion bits to give the sauce some flavor in addition to the salt and pepper to taste.

Low Carb Cauliflower Leek Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2007
What a wonderful soup!! After reading the reviews, I used only 6 cups of stock and found it to be just right. It wasn't bad without the cream, but I crave that velvety goodness of cream soups. Use a dusting of curry powder or not; delicious both ways.
