Watergate Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
This is my favorite dessert salad. People asked me to bring this so often that I make this for all gatherings I attend now. I have used crushed pineapple or pineapple tidbits, either works fine. I use pecans instead of walnuts. Lastly, I use a whole container of cool whip. The extra creamy cool whip is *really* good in this recipe. I make this without marshmallows for my veggie husband. The flavor is good, but obviously the consistency is different.

This recipe is AWESOME! I would have given it 5 stars, but modified it by adding onions. I use this recipe over and over. It is very very good!!

Mom's Best Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
This is the BEST BEST Macaroni Salad EVER!! The only change I make is that I don't use all the sugar the recipe calls for. Every time I take this to a gathering, people always ask for the recipe. My husband asks me to make this frequently and it keeps well. A word of caution; my husband asked me to make this using tomatoes and cucumbers. It tastes good, but breaks down very very quickly and can't be made ahead it has to be made and eaten the same day.

Lena's Pasta Fazul

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
My family LOVES this recipe. I add some kidney beans and don't use as much crushed pepper flakes as the recipes calls for. I've made this over and over since finding it. It is easy and tastes better the next day as leftovers.

My husband LOVED this. It was very very good. Sometimes I use the sauce, sometimes I use a bottled sauce. Its one of my most requested recipes.

Super Fast and Easy Chicken a la King

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
This was a very good and simple recipe. My family liked it over biscuits. I will definitely make this again and again. It is easy to make veggie for my husband. I just swapped out the cream of chicken soup with cream of celery and used fake chicken. My husband also likes this over noodles or rice.

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
My family LOVES this chili! My father in law said this is the best chili he's ever eaten. I've been married 11 years and this is the ONLY dish he's ever complimented. I have a veggie husband so I leave the meat out of his or use veggie burger.

Black Bean Lasagna I

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
My veggie husband who eats anything.. requested that I not EVER make this again. He said it had an odd taste. He likes black beans and he likes lasagna but he says they don't belong together. I've made other veggie lasagnas and he loves them, but this is a no go. I don't see any other negative reviews but wanted to share our experience. I would not have selected any stars but that was not an option. It made me choose at least one star.

Tomato-Cream Sauce for Pasta

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
This sauce was loved by my very picky boyfriend who hates when I experiment with food. I put the tomatos in the food processor for a few seconds before adding them when the recipe directed. We used all the onion and a little extra garlic, with a pinch of red pepper flakes. The sauce was even delicious before adding the cream and butter as a plain red sauce. You can let it simmer for 5-30 minutes before adding the cream (we used canned evaporated milk) and butter, so you can time it with the rest of your food!

Cream of Fresh Asparagus Soup II

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
I used canned evaporated milk in the recipe and vegetable broth instead of chicken broth. I also added one crushed clove of garlic before blending. I agree with the reviewer who said your friends will think you've become a chef overnight. While this soup takes a bit of effort to make, none of that effort is risky for an uneducated (and untalented) cook like myself. We bought tiny round sourdough loaves and hollowed them out for breadbowls to use with this recipe. Since then, we have sworn off all canned soups of any kind. We thought we didn't like soup at all until we tried this recipe!

Calico Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
This was good - but I did have to make quite a few changes. I used a 1/2 lb. of bacon - so not sure if that equals to a 1/2 cup or not. I also added an additional can of pork and beans. I reduced the brown sugar to 1/2 cup, reduced the vinegar to 2 tablespoons (and used apple cider vinegar), increased the mustard powder to 1/2 tablespoon and added a teaspoon of salt. I omitted the celery. I sautéed the bacon for a bit on it's own first and then added the ground beef and onion. I mixed up the sauce in a separate bowl. Then, I added everything to a 13 x 9 x 2" baking dish and combined it. Covered it and baked for an hour as stated. Making it this way, I LOVED it! Thanks for sharing something I could build off of.

BBQ Pork for Sandwiches

Wonderful recipe. I won't cook pulled pork any other way now. For my husband I do use his favorite bbq sauce from a chain bbq resturant and he loves it!
