Plains Midwest

The half-dozen states that make up the Plains sub-region of the Midwest represent America’s farm country. Until the end of the 19th century, the Great Plains had been the stomping ground of the American buffalo, or bison. Following their destruction, and with the introduction of irrigation, the plains states became America’s primary grain producers. The Plains Midwest makes up the Bread Basket and a good portion of the Corn Belt, as well. Kansas is wheat country. Iowa and Nebraska are known more for corn. But only Mitchell, South Dakota, can boast an actual Corn Palace. Where corn is produced in massive quantities, you can expect lots of hogs and cattle, which feed on the corn crop. And the Plains Midwest is meat and potatoes territory. Cattle are raised on the vast ranchlands, and beef vies with pork as the most popular meats.

Chocolate Trifle

Oh SO rich, I've also made this adding NOT ONLY the brownies, but broken up soft chocolate chip cookies TOO...mmm. My mom and I wondered if, instead of chocolate, the new Jello brand pumpkin spice pudding would make a good fall dessert such as this, maybe with Nilla wafers or graham crackers instead of brownies??? :)

Doggie Treats II

Reviewed on Nov. 6, 2009 by Whitney_j
I am making these right now, and my dog has been at my feet since I started. She loves the dough, so far, and I know she is going to love the finished product. I cut the pieces into smaller squares with a pizza cutter because I don't have a dog-bone cookie cutter yet. I am glad I came across the recipe because I had all of the ingredients on-hand and am sick of buying over-priced treats at the store. I also love the idea you gave of giving these as a gift with a cookie cutter!!!
