Chex® Muddy Buddies®

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
Quick suggestion we found is easier than shaking or stirring in the powdered sugar...we put the mix into our salad spinner, and add powdered sugar. Spin away (and shake a couple of times). All the mixture gets covered in sugar, and the excess sugar stays in the bowl.

Cranberry Sauce I

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
I tried a practice run with Frozen Cranberries and it was runny and the cranberries didnt burst. Last night I used fresh cranberries and it was PERFECT. I followed the suggestion of 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup brown, 3/4 cup OJ and 1/4 cup Water. I added the cranberries after the sugars had dissolved on the stove; added a pinch of cinnamin and some orange zest. I brought it to a boil reduced heat to low and stirred it often until the cranberries had burst (about 12 min). I turned off the heat and let it set on the hot burner for 45 min. I put it in the fridge and this morning it was still the perfect consistancy. Cant wait for Thanksgiving!!

Black Magic Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
I first used this recipie 6 mo. ago & I've been so busy baking different versions that I haven't had time to review it! It is now my standard chocolate cake recipie, & I'm going to make it again tomarrow for my best friend's baby shower. It is moist & dense & luscious! I have sub'ed the coffee with tea, water, hot cocoa, apricot nectar, & rum & it always turns out scrumptious. It takes a full hour to bake in my oven, & the center always falls a little for me, but that just means more frosting or a nice place to put fruit. I recomend making this the night before you plan to serve it so it can cool over night, & a crumb coat is DEFINATELY required when frosting this cake. Thank you for sharing this slice of chocolicious heaven.

Banana Cupcakes

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2009
I made these with whole wheat flour and a simple cream cheese frosting for my son's first birthday. Based on other reviews I substituted softened butter and whole milk for the shortening and buttermilk. The adults said they were good, and my baby seemed to thoroughly enjoy his first cake experience!

Ooey Gooey Chicken Burritos

Really good. Really simple. Really Tasty! My family loved this. I also adapted it a few nights later, adding fresh garlic, and we ate the chicken mix on top of wide egg noodles. We'll make this again and again.

Bubble Pizza

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2009
I used 1 pkg Grands biscuts cut into 8ths and italian sausage and pepperoni and one 14 oz jar of pizza sauce. The biscuit pieces absorbed a lot of the pizza sauce and were perfectly cooked. My husband and I found it VERY salty and a needed a little more sauce. According to the other reviews i would say it came from the Italian Sausage. I will try it next time with ground beef instead and some extra pizza sauce.

Easy Sausage Stuffing

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2009
Certainly the easiest I've ever made. And my family gobbled it up. I made as is but I added mushrooms to it because I love them in my stuffing. It baked up nicely with a bit of crunch around the edges and top which I like. I did not add any extra broth. The one thing I will not do next time I make it is add the melted butter. I didn't think it was needed and to me the taste of the butter was too overwhelming.

Serbian Ground Beef, Veggie, and Potato Bake

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2009
I had such high hopes for this after reading the rave review but taste is subjective. We did not care for the cinnamon. But I can't fault the recipe for our tastebuds. I followed as is and I'm rating 4 stars because it gave me some great ideas that with a few changes I will make it again. We loved the potatoes which I doubled as many reviewers suggested.

PHILLY Bacon and Tomato Presto Pasta

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2009
I used canned diced tomatoes and onion and chive cream cheese, because that is all the store had. I also mixed in some asparagus tips. It looked absolutley beautiful, all pink and creamy! I only gave 3 stars because it was a little bland. Definetly needed some zip somewhere.

Coconut Blueberry Cake

Even with how I changed this recipe it was still great. I used whole wheat flour, no coconut and left off the sauce. It was still a very moist, yummy cake! And a bit healthier ;-)

Jaeger Schnitzel

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2009
I currently live in Germany and used this as my guide as I have eaten Schnitzel many times. Schnitzel is made of whole pieces of meat and I used turkey breast. Instead of bread crumbs I used whole wheat flour and it was amazing. Made the gravy per the instructions and it tastes just like the Germans make it. Will try again with pork and chicken!

Lime Chicken Soft Tacos

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2009
really good, but not 10 servings. i doubled the chicken and sauce, and served 4. we didn't make pigs of ourselves either...it tasted bland at first, but i did increase the lime and vinegar just a bit and added some cayenne. also didn't have oregano, so i used thyme. when made into tacos with avocado, tomato, cheese and plain yogurt it was really really good! compliments all around.

Scotcharoos

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2009
Like many others, I've been making these for years. They are always a huge hit. I can't go to a potluck or picnic without them. I add the peanut butter as soon as the syrup and sugar start boiling, remove the pan from the heat and incorporate the PB well and keep stirring as you remove it from the heat! Have your cereal measured and ready, add slowly and gently. When you turn it over into the cake pan, press the cereal/slurry mixture firmly down and nice and smooth. I like to add more butterscotch chips than chocolate because they give that frosting a nice kick. Yum. Be forewarned: Once you start eating you won't stop!

Lower Fat Banana Bread I

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2009
My only changes to this recipe were a teaspoon of vanilla added, and I used low-fat milk instead of the water. I've made this several times and for low-fat it's not a bad recipe at all.

Snickerdoodles II

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2009
I was very pleased with this recipe. I wanted a softer cookie so I went 1/2 butter, 1/2 shortening and they turned out just the right mix of crisp/soft. The flavor is really good. I did chill the dough for about 15 minutes. I baked on 325, but I always do for any cookies unless the recipe calls for a lower temp. I baked using four cookie sheets so I always am loading the cookie dough onto cool sheets.

Chocolate Chip Pudding Cookies

Tops any other CCC I've made. These are soft cookies and bake up very nicely. The flavors can be easily mixed up. The first batch I made with vanilla pudding mix and a combination of chocolate chips and peanut butter chips. Will make these again for sure. Thanks!

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2009
Pretty darn good. I took other's advice and used Beef Broth. I sliced my roast into strips before cooking so didn't do any shredding. Hubby took it to work to feed his crew and it was really well received. Highly recommend, tasty and easy to make.
