Cake Balls

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2009
I used devils food and baked a little longer to make sure it was a little dry. Added choc frosting and came to a nice thick dough. I also froze them, but they never became solid and were still leaving crumbs in the almond bark so I can't imagine trying to dip them right away. Also, 3 oz is like 2 1/2 squares, no where near enough. I thinned out the chocolate w/ several T. shortening and still used nearly the entire package. The time is also very wrong, no way that you're done in an hour. The taste is okay, very sweet of course. But since there are so many other problems with this recipe as written, I don't feel that any more stars are deserved. Sorry.

Basil Pork Chops

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2009
These were good. I paired them with caramelized onions and some mashed potatoes. For me, the brown sugar overwhelmed the flavors of the basil and chili powder.

Easy OREO Truffles

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2009
These were good, but not great. My boyfriend and I couldn't put our finger on what was off, but it might be the semi sweet chocolate. If I make them again, I might use milk chocolate instead.

Roasted Pork Loin

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2009
The roast tasted fine, but was disappointingly dry. I followed the recipe very closely. Further, it was a bit of a nuisance to untie, unroll then retied the roast. I would, of course, do it again if I had felt that the result was worth it

Oatmeal Cranberry White Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2009
Oh my goodness they are great. I accidentally screwed up the butter proportion, so I ended up using 1 cup butter, 1 cup brown sugar, 2 eggs, and just a tad bit more of the oats, flour and baking soda. I also added about 2 tsp vanilla and 2 tbsp white sugar. Now I like my cookies sweet, and these were. Just how I like 'em!

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2009
This is very very good! I put the chicken soup in at the beginning along with frozen chicken breast and butter. I only used half of the seasoning packet and 4 oz low fat cream cheese with about 1/4 cup low fat sour cream. Served over egg noodles!

Homemade Apple Cider

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2009
This is an excellent recipe! I used the same recipe, but I used my juicer to juice the apples instead of heating and simmering them on the stove. I highly recommend using a juicer if you have one, it makes this recipe quick and easy!

This is the first time I was making homemade hot chocolate. I am really picky about my hot chocolate and I just did not like this recipe and neither did my husband. He said he prefers swiss miss over this recipe.

Casserole in the Cooker

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2009
I used regular rice instead of the minute rice because I didn't realize that it was all that I had no hand and I wasn't sure that the recipe was going to come out with fully cooked rice but it was done. However with that rice all the liquid was completely gone and it was quite dry but I blame that on myself not the recipe as I used the wrong rice. Otherwise it had good flavor to it and the kids enjoyed it.

French Beef Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2009
Dont really know what makes it French vs regular beef stew but it was good. I followed the recipes as stated but when it was done the sauce was still very soupy so I ended up adding some flour shaken in water to it to make it more stew like. Everyone enjoyed it though.

Baked Ziti

I love the simplicity of this recipe. I use fresh mozzarella and I shred it myself, which I recommend over the pre-shredded stuff in the bag, it makes a big different in my opinion. I tossed some extra dried basil into the sauce. This is quick and easy!

Crispy Rosemary Chicken and Fries

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
I used 4 chicken leg quarters, about medium 6 red potatoes (cut into 8ths) and all dried herbs. I mixed the dried herbs in with the olive oil and tossed everything together in the baking dish, then topped with extra salt and pepper. This dish was a breeze to throw together and the chicken was fantastic, but the potatoes were not quite crispy - next time I will drain the oil from the baking dish before the cook time is up as others have suggested.

Sweet Potato Rolls

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
These rolls were fluffy but filling. The sweet potato didn't add an overpowering flavor, which we liked. I am a novice bread maker, so I was afraid to add too much extra flour to the dough and, as a result, shaping my rolls was very difficult and they did not look very pretty in the end. Next time I will not be so timid with the extra flour!

Baked Kale Chips

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
Yummy! I used frilly red kale from the farmers market, and cut the entire stem out of the leaf. I didn't bake as long as suggested - I checked on these a couple of minutes before the suggested time, and they were done. The consistency is kind of chip-like, and the flavor is interesting. It makes a nice salty TV snack!

My husband was super happy with me tonight! I took the suggestion of others and I used 1/4 cup of Franks Hot Sauce and 1/4 cup of butter for the sauce. Also added a dash of garlic powder. Everything else I followed exactly. Couldn't be happier with this recipe. Thanks so much!
