Best Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2009
I made these according to the recipe, without the frosting, and my family loved them! They weren't too cake-like, like some of the other reviews say. At least to us they weren't. I took the advice of other reviews and hand mixed the batter, and beat the eggs before adding them. Good brownie recipe and we're making them again tonight with chocolate chunks and walnuts!

Brown Sugar and Port Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
The flavor is very good. It's just a little on the tart side for me, though. I added a dash of vanilla but otherwise kept the recipe the same. I used ruby port but wonder how the tawny would work since it's a bit sweeter. I may try that next as I love the flavor of port, and homemade sauce is the way to go.

Cranberry Red Wine Relish

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
This is very good. I made as written with a couple of minor exceptions. I added a dash of vanilla to smooth out the flavor and used grated orange zest rather than strips. I think next time I'll try a red wine with a little sweetness.

Chili Rick's

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2009
This is by far, the best tasting chili I have ever had. My husband made it, as is, for a chili cookoff at work. I am having it for lunch, as well. I really don't like chili, but to support him, figured I would try it. I LOVE IT! The chocolate makes the chili very smooth. Great recipe!

Schlotsky's Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2009
Amazingly close to Schlotsky's. My whole family loved this. I upped the amount of salt due to the reviews...added about a teaspoon but otherwise stuck to the recipe except for the pans. I used personal pizza pans to make individual loaves. They turned out fabulous. I can't wait to make a jalapeno cheese version. I will make these again and again. So easy and so good!

Chewy Whole Wheat Peanut Butter Brownies

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2009
I used crunchy natural peanut butter, white whole wheat flour, and flipped the sugars to use more brown sugar. I added a good dose of vanilla and threw in chocolate and peanut butter chips and baked in a 10 x 10 pan. They were eaten within a couple of days and more have been requested. Next time, I'll add a bit more PB and use all whole wheat flour and more peanut butter chips. *update* Made again and used all white whole wheat flour, 6 TBS butter, 1 TBSP vanilla, omitted the water, added an additional 1/4 c PB, and added chopped Snickers. Oh my! They are delicious!!!

German Chocolate Cake II

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
My mom used to make this cake before she had an electric mixer and used a rotary beater. They were great. Since she's not with us anymore I have taken on the task...with a electric mixer. This is the trick I use for the frosting if you only want to ice the tops of the layers. I add extra coconut and nuts, and make it the night before so it thickens (I just leave it on the stove/counter covered up). It will be much richer, but there's no way getting around it...the cake is rich anyway. Also the preparation is not so time consuming. I used to make the cake then the frosting; then I'd have to wait for the hot frosting to cool, blah, blah, blah. I keep my cake in a covered cake carrier and it stays moist.

Good cookies. I have made them twice. Both times I had to add extra flour because my batter was more of brownie batter consistency. Great with a glass of milk!

Dill Pickles

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2009
Wow, if I would have had this recipe years ago, I would be neck deep in pickles every year!! These are as fantastic as everyone before me has said. I did not process them in a hot water bath. I did as one other member suggested and inverted the jars as they were filled and covered them all with a blanket overnight. In the morning they were all sealed. I had enough brine and cukes left to make a pint of spears. I knew I would want to taste these before 8 weeks so I put them in the fridge and could only hold out for two days. OMG so so good, and crisp! Thanks for a fantastic recipe!!

Rosemary Chicken with Orange-Maple Glaze
