Sheboygan, Wisconsin

Sheboygan, the self-proclaimed “Bratwurst Capital of the World,” was settled by German immigrants. At one time, the city was known for the Four Cs: “Cheese, Chairs, Churches and Children,” reflecting the local dairy industry and the woodworking prowess and Catholicism of the early population. Brat fries are beloved social and fundraising events, and Friday fish fries are still staples of the food scene. (Espresso drinks are a relatively new import, and spiced chai was described in a pamphlet at a local grocery store as tasting “like Christmas!”) Sheboygan’s “Bratwurst Days” festival is held on the first weekend of August. Johnsonville Sausage—which makes the brats served at Packers games—was founded just up the road. It’s not all about the sausage, though: Biró Restaurant was founded by a European master chef, and meals that will please the most sophisticated palates can be found at Trattoria Stefano and at the American Club in nearby Kohler.

Three Cheese Garlic Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed on May 11, 2008 by morley
Don't understand why all the great reviews on this one. Followed the recipe exactly and came out with a dish of greasy potatoes that needed AT LEAST another 30 minutes to cook-they were still crunchy. I would rather eat scalloped potatoes from a box mix than go through all this work...not to mention there is no way to make this even semi-nutritious.

Pumpkin Turkey Chili

Reviewed on May 11, 2008 by morley
Great place to start! My previous chili's were always missing a slight "sweet" taste. Problem solved! Added a can chili beans, can of corn, cumin, Tastefully Simple's Fiesta dip mix for some heat, dash of liquid smoke, 1/2 cup Zing Zang bloody mary mix(#1 best ever Bloody Mary mix) and used Morningstar Farms veggie crumbles instead of turkey. Great vegetarian recipe!

Italian Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Reviewed on Feb. 28, 2008 by THCOUNSELOR
This was the best! I did have to put the rack in my oven to the lowest one to avoid burning from the broiler, but if you like cheesy garlic bread, you will LOVE this recipe! I also tried two or even three cheeses and ALL were YUMMY! Even my picky eaters ate it!!!
