Tangy Slow Cooker Pork Roast

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2009
I made everything just as the recipe calls for except I didn't use the slow cooker. I simply used an oven bag, first couple hours at 350 then an hour at 250. Everyone loved this one and the veggies with it were excellent.

Peppermint Patties

These are great. Only need 3.5 cups of the sugar. Makes so many! But I noticed that they get stale a little quicker than I liked (and I did wrap them in candy foils).

Nut Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2008
Ok, I feel so bad about leaving such a low rating. And usually when I don't like something, I just don't rate it at all. But I am so completely disappointed with this recipe... and mostly because of the reviews! Only one negative one out of all I looked at and it referred to pecans which isn't even in this recipe! But I followed this recipe to the T. I used it because of the reviewers claiming the likeness to Kolachi. This is NOTHING like the kolachi I grew up with. Yes, the dough had a great flavor, maybe a little sweet for Kolachi, and it was easy to work with. But the recipe did not tell you the thickness to roll out the dough or what area to roll it out (ie - 12x10). So because other reviewers claimed the "perfect" kolachi recipe I rolled it as I would when making kolachi. It did not rise at all. The dough turned out tough on the outside and too doughy on the inside. And they also stuck to the pan. Like I said, I followed this recipe to the T. The recipe does not say to grease the pans so I didn't and usually wouldn't for this type of recipe. I feel this recipe just leaves out too much info or I'm very wrong in thinking that nut roll is just another word for kolachi. So I just thought I'd leave this review for those who might assume as I did. I believe the dough would make for a great Kolacky cookie however. And I just might give that a try because the dough is good, sweet and easy to work with. I also felt that the nut filling is delicious as well. Sorry f

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
I've done it with half butter and half crisco and then I've done it with all crisco. My family likes it either way, but there not as picky with their baked goods as they are with cooking. But I will use this recipe from now on. Easy and delish!

Creamy Chicken Lasagna

This dish was a welcome change to the traditional, and even my picky hubby liked it. My daughter loved it. Probably could of doubled the recipe. Wasn't as thick as your typical lasagna.

Love this recipe. Followed it to the letter except I used the alternative of chopped ham instead of a ham hock, and I added a bit of ham boullion to make up for it. YUUUMMMY! Also did the 6 hours. Flavorful and inexpensive.

Absolutely Ultimate Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
I made this on a night my father happened to be over for dinner. Within days, my father and sisters and mother all seperately asked me for the recipe. Apparently word travels fast! I used good ole 2% instead of cream. I pureed all the vegetables and half the potatoes to hide the vegetables from the picky eaters. This was a HIT! Thanks so much

Country Fried Steak and Milk Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2008
Tasted good with minor additions. Added garlic powder and paprika to the flour mixture. Used canola oil in place of lard. I also let my steaks sit for about 10 minutes before frying to try and keep the breading on. My family really liked the gravy, especially with mashed potatoes. Some of my steaks were a little tough, so next time I will cook them in the crockpot.

Deliciously sweet! I scaled the recipe down to 16 servings. Added 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon zest. Only used 2 drops of yellow food coloring to give a better yellow color. I used this recipe to fill and top the Lemon Gold Cake recipe.

My peppers were very small so I scaled the filling down to 3 servings. Quite time consuming to remove the seeds. I made sure to wear food safe gloves. Hubby LOVED them! Due to the small pepper size, he said they were wicked hot!
