Peanut Butter Vegetable Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2009
This was really good. I took the suggestion of sauteing my onion, celery and garlic in olive oil first. I also added 1 cup of white wine and cooked my chicken breasts in the soup for 3 - 4 hours and shredded it in the soup. I think cooking the chicken in the soup just gives everything more flavor. I also added a cup of cubed acorn squash, a little red pepper flakes for some heat and a teaspon of lime juice to brighten the flavor. This was a really good soup. We served it with couscous with golden raisins. We ended up mixing our couscous into our soup bowls and the sweetness of the raisins was really good! I will definitely make this again.

Tiramisu Layer Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2009
A real hit at our holiday dinner party today. A little time-consuming, but well worth the effort...pretty presentation. I "made" the marscarpone from the recipes posted by other reviewers, but otherwise followed the recipe. Used "heavy whipping cream" instead of heavy cream, as that was all I had available. Watched the beating time, though, and it turned out great. Will do again. for special occasions.

Absolutely decadent, wonderful and rich! I added garlic and crushed red pepper to the sautee'ing process. I used 1/2 and 1/2 in place of heavy cream. YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Laura's Quick Slow Cooker Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2009
This was great. I left out a few of the spicer ingredient so my two year old would eat it, and it turned out fine. First time I've made or had turkey chili, and it's definitely a recipe I'll keep.

I made this exactly as said and it turn out great. Even my mother, who has told me over and over that she can't stand crab, absolutely loved it. I made it two days in a row because she came back for more.

I usually save the left overs for my husband, but this was so yummy, I had to have them. :) Like someone else said, I also recommend using Bertolli alfredo sauce. I also used paramasean instead of colby-monterey jack, and it was wonderful.

Cottage Cheese Chicken Enchiladas

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2009
THESE WERE AMAZING! I had to triple the recipe because I ended up inviting my parents over to eat. I only changed one thing; I used a can of corn with red peppers instead of chiles. My two year old ate more than I did! This will definitely be on our regular menu now.

Strawberry Schaum Torte

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2009
I have been making Schaum Torte ever since my brother married a German girl in the late 1950s and she brought this recipe to our family. We always serve it now for special occasions. It is our favorite. I usually serve it when I invite new friends to dinner, as well, because nobody ever heard of it before and they all love it! The only thing my sister-in-law did differently was to peel some of the top off of the finished meringue, in big pieces, fill the shell with whipped cream, and then place the pieces on top of the whipped cream. Then after she cut each piece and placed it on a dessert plate, she took a ladle and drizzled frozen/thawed strawberries over each piece. So delicious!!!

Crab Rangoon III

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
These were just OK. I really enjoy the "cheesyness" of the rangoons in the restaurant. These had a little too much seasoning, and didn't have that same taste. I used imitation crab meat, and left out the water chestnuts. I also added some green onion. Still, they just didn't taste cheesy enough.

Rich and Creamy Tomato Basil Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
Yummy! The leftovers actually tasted better because the flavors had more time to meld together. I added more tomato juice as it tasted a little too creamy after putting in the butter and heavy cream. I used 2 reg. tomatoes and 3 roma tomatoes and about 5 cups tomato juice.

Candy Cane Cookies I

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
These are the same that my mom has been making for 40 + years! The complaints on here are the same ones I've been hearing from her for at least 35 years (LOL). I agree, the size of egg AND shortening make a HUGE difference in how the dough comes out. The dough tends to be a bit on the dry side -- use extra large or large eggs and the dough will be easier work and shouldn't crack so much. I moved to Ohio 10 years ago and mom has tried shipping them to me (they don't withstand the postal service too well), a few years back she just started rolling the dough out and cutting it like a sugar cookie -- they are much more durable and still taste GREAT!

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2009
These taste great and stay soft, but they ended up being really flat cookies. I was hoping they'd puff up and be cake-like, and even added some baking powder to get them to rise. Great cookies but I'm still looking for my ideal ginger cookie...

Hungarian Coconut Balls

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2009
I have made a very similar candy. If you are having trouble with the consistancy of the candy you must use "plain" mashed potatoes. Try to use a baked potato from the microwave and mash it until lump free. Do not add any moisture to the potato.
