Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
This was my first turkey and it was delicious! Our family is so big we had 2 turkeys this year and I decided I was up for the perfect turkey challenge. I doubled the recipe for my 22lb bird and ended up putting it in at 8pm the night before covered in foil. At only 230 F degrees and let her cook until 11:30 Thanksgiving morning. It was so juicy, my family raved over it! This is a definite keeper. I did mix the butter with garlic powder before rubbing it under the skin and threw in quartered onions, apples and an orange for flavor in the middle of the carcass. (if you want the pretty golden color make sure you take off the foil at least an hour before it's done, but don't forget to baste it so it won't dry out!) The leftover juice was to good to let go to waste, so I made a turkey dumpling soup the next day!! My mother-in-law couldn't believe we had bought our turkeys at the same place because of how juicy this recipe made mine!

Broccoli Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2008
This is an amazing recipe! I've had it exactly as written and also tonight I made some alterations. Everybody's taste is different lol. Still yet I did not vary to far from the original. Like many others I doubled the cheese, and added garlic in with my onion. I used 2-32oz boxes of broth instead of 4 cans, and 4-16oz bags of frozen broccoli. We love broccoli lol. I do not have an immersion blender *wish I did* so once all was mixed and heated I blended half of the soup. DELISH!!!!!!! I love it

Bake Sale Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2008
I made these for a little get together...and while they were good and some were eating them, they were a little small, and a little overdone. the overdoneness probably came from my oven however...it runs a bit hot. and i didn't get the 36 yield either....making me have to cut them smaller to get more. i am not sure why i didn't get more out of the recipe though. they were good and i love lemon. i might make them again and just adjust temp for my oven.

Rosemary Chicken with Orange-Maple Glaze

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2008
this is really great! i really didn't know what to expect, since one, i am not a really experienced cook and 2, i had never tried to make this before. but my husband and i really enjoyed the chicken and especially the glaze. the glaze was a little hard to thicken, imo, and i didn't have any flour or anything to thicken it.....oh i know, what's a kitchen without flour lol.....but i added some cream cheese i had, used a whisk, and it thickened enough to add to the chicken. easy to make, and really great taste. thanks!

Very good. The texture was great. I also added 1 teaspoon vanilla and only used 1/2 teaspoon salt. Thanks for the great recipe!

Cinnamon Bread I

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2008
This is simply delicious. My oven isn't working but I have been dying to try out the bread machine. I just put all the ingredients (minus the topping ingredients) into the bread machine and it did all the work. I did use 2 tsp of cinnamon instead of 1.5tsp and used regular 2% milk instead of buttermilk. Our result was a nice, moist, sweet dessert bread. DELISH!!

Tomato-Cream Sauce for Pasta

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2008
This sauce was very good. I took the advice of another reviewer and pureed the tomatoes and onions but it was a little to runny so I added a tsp of cornstarch mixed with a sm. amount of creamer first so it would be smooth. It lacked a little umph for us and had to add in a little crushed red pepper and a pinch of chile powder. My husband said it needed sprinkled with Parmesan Cheese to make it perfect.
