Whip up a delightful Alfredo sauce with skim milk, chicken broth and flour in place of heavy cream. Parmesan cheese gives it just the right zing. Add sauteed onions and garlic and lightly cooked broccoli, and you have a terrific dish!

This marvelous sauce is the reason you grow your own tomatoes. Dice a few and add minced garlic, fresh basil and the best quality olive oil you can buy. Let the heady mixture rest at room temperature for a few hours, then toss with hot pasta.

'This is one of my favorite recipes for last-minute school bake sales,' writes Sandy Kerrison from her home in Lockport, New York. 'The cake-like snacks are the first items to go...that is, if they're not grabbed by a teacher first. I also include them in Christmas cookie gift baskets.'

Apple Rosemary Pork Tenderloin

This roast is by far the best tenderloin recipe I've ever made. The sweetness imparted from the gravy and the apple flavor is quite different from what is typically expected from a pork roast. The apple and onion mixture cooked with the roast makes an excellent side dish with a little of the gravy over the top.

Everyone in the family has something that they're the best at making. I make the best cookies, my sister, Carol, makes the best pies in the whole world! . . . no competition in our family! This recipe includes an ingredient called free flowing brown sugar. This is a non-clumping or caking version of ordinary brown sugar. It has a lower moisture content then the traditional one, which makes it free flowing much like granulated sugar. It is available at most specialty supermarket. If it is not available in your part of the world, use regular brown sugar and make sure it is broken up, free of clumps. Macintosh or Granny Smith apples are the best choices for apple pie because they are the least mushy apples.

This rich, creamy torte has always been one of my favorite autumn desserts. Mom uses the freshest apples from a local orchard and bakes this treat until the apples are crisp-tender. It tastes as good as it looks. -Alyson Armstrong, Parkersburg, West Virginia
