Pork Chops in Tomato Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2007
I am not a huge fan of pork chops but this recipe was pretty tasty! My family loved it. I added a couple of pinches of brown sugar and garlic powder to the tomato sauce. I also seasoned the pork chops with salt pepper and garlic salt and let them simmer for about a half hour.

Best Chicken Salad Ever I

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2007
This was great! I used a cooked chicken breast, omitted the pecan and relish, used 3 Tablespoons of light mayo and 1 Tablespoon of sour cream. I also added a few dashes of ground cayenne pepper. Delicious! Definitely a keeper!

Blueberry French Toast

I always like to make breakfast ahead when company is over. This was great; a nice change from my usual egg/sausage or oatmeal casseroles. I followed the recipe to the letter. I will definitely make this again.

Chicken Tortilla Soup V

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2007
I should've doubled this! I made this for company and thank goodness I made sopapillas to go with it -- the soup was devoured in minutes. It was not creamy and thick like a certain restaurant's, but I liked this better. I used hearty tortilla chips and medium salsa. It had great flavor, but not the spicy bite that would've upset kids & elderly in the grouping.

Soft Onion Sandwich Rolls

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2007
I forgot to buy buns before company arrived. Had Italian beef (from this site) on the weekend menu. I whipped up these rolls without a bread machine and they were the PERFECT compliment to the beef. Next time, I'll slice 'em, butter 'em and broil/toast/grill them just before serving.

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2007
We loved this recipe. The grocery meat dept. swears london broil is the same as rump roast, but sliced. I had to substitute two 2.5 london broils for the 5 lb rump. Turned out GREAT. I added 2 pkg of italian seasoning and beef broth rather than water per other reviews. It turned out shredded not sliced which was fine with us. I served it on homemade onion buns. I froze extra for future quick meals.

We liked this recipe slightly better than baked oatmeal II. I served this with half and half, applesauce, and leftover raspberry orange soup as available toppings. Great breakfast!

Total strangers ask me for this recipe at gatherings. I made it twice this holiday season - doubled both times. It disappears quickly!! I like to switch the almonds for hazelnuts when I can find them.

I totally cheated. I bought frozen cooked shrimp, thawed it, marinated it and broiled it. Mmm. I love basil & this recipe was perfect.

Won Tons

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2006
I changed way too much in the "stuffing" for a fair rating, but my husband LOVED the dipping sauce, and I loved the basic instructions. Turned out great - the whole family liked them. (FYI, I used pork shreds from a different meal instead of crab, and skipped the chestnuts)

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2006
I made this exactly as directed. The taste was pretty good, but it didn't beat my grandma's toasted oatmeal cookies (uses sour milk & toasts the oatmeal first). I also prefer the oatmeal cookie recipe on the Quaker Oats box. If you want soft, add a slice of apple to the container when they start getting crisp. (Grandma's tip)

Burgundy Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2006
This was an EASY, delicious recipe. My kids (teens) really liked it. I liked it too, but reserved one star 'cause I prefer a couple other tenderloin recipes. I used pinot nior as suggested by others which I think kept the flavor in the kid-friendly range.

Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2006
I made this twice within a month. First, for a football get together -- my guests LOVED it. Second, for Thanksgiving weekend. I made the soup Monday without spinach, refrigerated it for travel, and served it (heated w/o spinach) Saturday night with a great freshly baked crusty bread. The only reason I left out the spinach the second time was ease. The soup tastes great both ways.

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2006
Wow. I assembled this for Thanksgiving on Tuesday, traveled 7 hours Wednesday, baked and served it Thursday. It was fabulous. Having it prepared in advance helped me get the meal on the table all at once. And my father, who 'compliments the chef' but NEVER specifically points out a dish told me to give my mother the recipe!! My husband loved the pecans. Both said it was not too sweet as many sweet potato casseroles can be.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

All I wanted was a simple recipe that would turn out like Mom's. This did it. I think you could substitute almost any seasoning, and get great results based on the cooking directions. The only thing I'd "change" is Mom told me to turn the wings under before cooking, and watch vigilantly for 'done-ness'. (My 15 lb bird was done in under 3 hours.)

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

This was delicious! I actually left out the red pepper, the chili peppers and the cumin, used real bacon instead of bacon bits (3 strips) added about 1 tablespoon of sugar, but wow! It was spicy but more of an aftertaste spicy, not too spicy... Will definitely make again!

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

It isn't autumn without apple cider & my mother's molasses crinkle cookies. Don't tell Mom, but these are better. No need to refrigerate overnight, minimal batter stuck to my hands when rolling, and absolutely delicious.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2006
Maybe it's silly to rate a 5 star with 3350 previous ratings, but I'm just so happy to FINALLY make a good chocolate chip cookie! Honest. I'm so tired of hearing, "the secret is to use 1/2 shortening" AND someone else's "the secret is to use all butter." I only tried this recipe because my daughter BEGGED for c.c. cookies. (She knew I'd sworn off 'em) These turned out GREAT. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Cholesterol King Heart Stopper 2000

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2006
OMGosh! This was THE perfect recipe to feed a soccer team. I picked it for the 5 star rating and the hope that the contents would not make the bread soggy by the time the boys got them. I was shy about onions and peppers for teen palates, so went VERY light on them. I took squeeze mayo, mustard, and italian dressing just in case, but only 2 boys used condiments. My son said "They all LOVED 'em. It was the best team meal yet." My daughters loved the leftovers, my husband loved the last one. (by then at least 5 hrs old) I used 20 sub-sized buns, quadrupled the garlic butter, grated my own parmesan, and used good quality ingredients. (Ok, I went cheap & only used one cheese - provolone) Awesome!!

St. Louis Toasted Ravioli

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2006
I'm only rating the process. I wanted to duplicate the fried ravioli appetizer I had at a local restaurant. This recipe showed me how. I bought refrigerated Italian sausage ravioli from a large wholesale store and a jar of basil spaghetti sauce. Forgot the egg, but turned out great fried in just enough oil to almost cover. Thanks for posting which gave me the confidence to try fried ravioli!!
