Amber's Sesame Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
Prepared as written it was quite good. The only thing I would change is that I wouldn't bread and fry it. I know that is part of what sesame chicken is, but the flavors of oil and the sauce were competing with each other. I never have perfected the art of frying, and the flavor of the sauce is delicious by itself! I would agree with others in saying to double the sauce, and in pre-mixing the honey and teriyaki sauce. I saved some teriyaki sauce from the baked chicken teriyaki recipe on this site and it worked very well! We had it with fried rice and cream cheese wontons. I will definitely make this again!

Cranberry Salad II

Fresh and tasty. I added a lot more honey than the recipe calls for, I have a sweet tooth :) Also left out the walnuts due to an allergy. Get out as much of the white stuff on the oranges as you can, to avoid a bitter taste.

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
Good, thick but fluffy and tasty all together but there was a bit to much baking powder in there for my tastes. I enjoyed it but I will keep looking for the perfect pancake batter, this was yummy but not quite it for me at least.

I really enjoyed this. It was really flavorful and super easy to make. It did take an hour longer than stated for the meat to get tender which wasn't a big deal.

This is a simple, easy to make pie. My mom used to make it for us when we were kids so I was VERY happy to find it on here!

Sweet Restaurant Slaw

Few changes: 1/4 cup sugar, 1/3 cup mayo, 1/3 cup Miracle whip. The dressing seems a bit thick once you add the coleslaw, but an hour in the fridge thins it out perfectly!

Ten Minute Enchilada Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
Made this with a few changes: only 1-2 tablespoons of chili powder and doubled the other spices. SO GLAD I cut the chili powder called for. Would have been way too strong! Used the sauce to smother burritos. Yummy!

I used the recipe for the dressing only. Tossed it with spinach and topped with candied walnuts, cranberries, and mandarins. Tasty!

Washington State Apple Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
This was really really excellent. I used Never, Never Fail Pie Pastry from this site for the crust. I cooked the apples and then refrigerated them overnight, the next day I tossed with the seasonings, brushed egg white over my pastry, and put in the oven. Came out so perfect! Bottom crust was perfect, top crust not overdone, and the syrup in the filling (while a little thin) had so much great flavor. Making this one again!

Bacon Cheese Frittata

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2009
This was a big hit at our brunch. We doubled the amount of bacon, but we'll use a smaller baking dish next time. It was spread REALLY thinly in a 9 X 13 pan (I know the recipe calls for 11 x 7 but we didn't have that)

Double Layer Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2009
This was a nice, quick recipe to take to Thanksgiving dinner. I found it made a LOT of filling, I threw away probably a third of the cream cheese and the pumpkin mixture each, which makes me think I could have filled 2 pie shells rather than just one (just made smaller pies).

Pumpkin Pie Spice II

Thanks for a great recipe! To make it easier, I scaled the recipe to 8 servings and measured everything onto a folded sheet of clean paper; then you can just dump the pile into your spice jar, no mess! Shake and Bake!

Daria's Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
This was amazing! I did not have any wine so left it out; I'm sure that makes it even better :) I didn't realize someone had opened the sour cream until it was time to stir it in; I had half a container, so I added a little cream cheese to make it up. I forgot the parsley at the end too, but man this stuff is addicting!

Tarragon-Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
This was great! I halved the recipe but used the full pound of meat to please my other half. I only had regular barley, so I precooked it and added it at the end. I did let it simmer a bit longer than the recipe states, to give my bread time to finish baking. Thanks for a great recipe!

Irish Brown Soda Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
This bread is good for what it is. Not a ton of flavor, but it soaked up my salty soup very well! I scaled the recipe to 3 servings to make 1 loaf. I flattened it to about an inch before cooking, which seemed to work great. I also drizzled it with a tablespoon or so of melted butter before baking, and brushed another tablespoon on halfway through.

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2009
Agree with everyone -- an excellent starting point for personalizing chili. I added a 10oz. can of Rotel and subtracted 10oz. from the tomato juice. I used chili beans instead of pinto beans and brown sugar instead of white. I cooked in a crock pot and it was a bit runny, so I cooked with the lid off for the last hour or so, which helped thicken it up.

Baked Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2009
Great flavors! Just the right amount of spice in an often bland dish. The directions don't include baking the potatoes before including in the soup, but this is a KEY step! I'll be making this again, but I'll bake the potatoes first next time.
