Beef Stew with Dumplings

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2007
This was a really great recipe! I ended up using about 2 cups of beef broth instead of water, and then added an additional 2 cups of water while the stew was cooking. I added a package of beef stew seasoning for more flavor, but the end result was a little too salty for my taste. Next time, I'll use the seasoning and skip the beef broth.

Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies II

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2007
These were absolutely the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever made!!!!!! I followed the directions exactly (with butter flavored shortening) and they turned out perfect. I dropped about 1/4 cup of dough per cookie, and I ended up with more like 18 cookies instead of 12 (and they were still BIG). Absolutely spectacular!

Amazing Pork Tenderloin in the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2007
I thought this was great! I used a pork loin, and followed the directions exactly, except that I put it on HIGH for 4 hours, thinking it wouldn't be done it time. Afterwards, it was still excellent but 4 hours on LOW would have been fine. Also, next time, I will double the ingredients to have more sauce left over. Thanks, it was fantastic! ~~And note: a lot of complaints about the recipe say that it has a strong red wine flavor... which makes sense because wine is one of the main ingredients! Be sure to pick a wine you like to drink, or you won't like the end result of the recipe. And if you don't like red wine, you probably won't like something cooked in red wine, but don't give it a bad rating. This is really one of the best meals I've ever fixed!~~

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2007
These really were the best sugar cookies I've ever had. Roll the dough out to about 1/2" to get the tender, soft sugar cookies. I chilled it in the refrigerator overnight and used a lot of powdered sugar to keep the dough from sticking. NOTE: the dough is very sticky! Make sure you have plenty of powdered sugar to coat the rolling surface and rolling pin to make your job easier. These cookies are spectacular, and taste just like the gourmet ones that cost way too much!

Very sweet and very easy to make, this icing gave the cookies a very glossy and pretty look!

Twice Baked Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2007
These potatoes were great, way better than the ones you get in restaurants! I left out the red pepper and mushroom due to personal preference. They take some time to make, but they are worth it!

Easy Pork and Sauerkraut

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2007
My mom makes a pork and sauerkraut dish that I was looking for when I found this recipe, and this one was even better! I followed the recipe almost exactly... but my pork loin was over 2 lbs, so I doubled everything except for the apple. I also added about a tsp of caraway seeds. I didn't cube the roast either, I just cut two long slits lengthwise and stuffed them with sauerkraut, then broke broke the roast up as it cooked. Excellent meal, and it was exactly what we were looking for on a cold day!

Joey's Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2007
This is an awesome recipe for peanut butter cookies. I followed the recipe exactly, except I added some milk chocolate chips to half the batch. The batter does look a little runny, but after you add the flour, it's firm enough to roll into balls. OH YEAH, only leave the cookies in the oven for about 8 minutes, then take them out and let them rest on the sheet for a few minutes before you take them off to cool them. They may not look all the way done, but trust me, they will be! If you bake them any longer (like I did with the first two batches I baked) they come out a little hard and dry (but still good with a glass of milk!)

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2007
The only way I've ever been able to eat a sweet potato was to slather it with butter and brown sugar. I was looking for something elegant to serve for Thanksgiving, and I'm glad I gave this recipe a try! Everyone loved it and said they would never want the marshmallowy casserole again. It was also beautiful coming out of the oven. Make sure to use 5 fairly large sweet potatoes, I ended up using 6 because mine were rather small.

Sugarless Pumpkin Pie II

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2007
I made this recipe for the diabetic family members who couldn't have the regular desserts. Everyone said it tasted very good... and one asked to take the rest home, so I guess it's a winner. It was super easy to make and a lot cheaper than the sugar-free pies you buy at the store.

Pumpkin Layer Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2007
I made this for Thanksgiving dessert, and barely made it to the plate in time to get a piece. Everyone said it was great, and I thought so too. I'm not a big fan of pumpkin pie, and this is the perfect combo of pumpkin pie and cheesecake to be festive for the holiday. I followed the recipe exactly and it came out perfect, about half cheesecake and half pumpkin. It was also beautiful once it was cut.

Fluffy Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2007
These biscuits we're okay, but nothing to rave about. They had a slightly sweet taste, and although they were tender, they tasted a little bland to me. I probably won't make them again, just because I'm looking for those super fluffy, very tender, buttery biscuits. I did use shortening as called for, so maybe they would be a lot better with butter instead.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2007
I followed Corinne's modifications as I saw it would lend more flavor to the original recipe, and it was great! I used 2 cups beef broth and next time I will up it to 2 1/2 - 3 cups so the stew is a little more saucy (love to soak up the sauce with some crusty bread). This beef stew really hit the spot now that the weather's cooling off. My hubbie loved it too.

Peanut Butter Dreams

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2007
If I could have given this recipe 2 1/2 stars I would have. I followed the directions exactly and I came out with a clumpy mess. After mixing the butter, sugar and peanut butter together, the mixture was so thick that the rice crispies wouldn't stick to it, so as I rolled the balls, most fell apart. Then the rest fell apart as I tried to dip them in the chocolate. I'm not sure what went wrong, but I ended up with a bunch of little pieces instead of rolled balls. They do taste ok, which is why I'm giving them two stars... but there has to be a better recipe. Anyone that goes ahead on the recipe, I suggest trying three cups of sugar instead of four, or to press the mixture into a pan and make bars out of it.

Daria's Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2007
I also followed the review suggestions made by Sara and otherwise followed the rest of the recipe. I used eye of round steaks since I had them on hand, and they crumbled in the crockpot. Next time I will use a heartier cut of meat. Anyway, this recipe is awesome! I've been craving some good stroganoff and this hits the spot. I can't to feed it to my beef-loving husband. This will definitely be an addition to the regular rotation.

Slow Cooker Swiss Steak

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2007
Very good and very easy. I added some Worchestershire sauce and a pkg of onion soup mix in with the tomatoes and let the pot sit on low all day. The steak was tender and the sauce was perfect with mashed potatoes. ~~~Since my previous review, I've made this steak with and without browning the meat first, and I can't tell much of a difference. Now I just add some flour into the sauce mixture for thickening purposes and it's still awesome!

Awesome Roast Beef

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2007
I thought my mom made an awesome roast beef... but this one is even better than hers (shhh, don't tell her I said that!) I made this for the kids, hubbie and in-laws and everyone loved it, even the picky two-year-old. After reading reviews I added a pkg of dry onion soup mix and 1/2 cup of water, and also onions, potatoes and carrots to the crock pot and left it on low for about seven hours. The sauce turned into a nice gravy. I used an eye of round roast, and the meat came out so tender and moist, I will DEFINITELY be making this one again.

Rainbow Sherbet Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2007
Although this cake was very pretty, I just didn't find it to be that appetizing. I love angel food cake, sherbet and cool whip, but somehow all together, it just really wasn't that good. It was easy to make and it was pretty, but I don't think I'll make it again.

Marinated Barbequed Vegetables

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2007
Not the best recipe I've ever tried for grilled vegetables... The lemon was a little overpowering and after grilling, I thought it left a very acidic unflavorful (and I do like lemon) taste to the veggies. Others liked the results, but I don't think I'll make them again.

Grilled Marinated Shrimp

Very good marinade for the shrimp! Tangy, garlicky, with just a little tomato flavor for balance. I will definitely make this again.
