Amazingly Good Eggnog

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
I thoroughly enjoyed this recipe. Thanks for sharing! To any of you who may make the same mistake I did (I let the egg mixture get a little too hot and I almost had scrambled eggnog) there is a way to still save it! I'm sure it would have been better if I hadn't over cooked but here's what I did, I put the egg and milk mixture through a food processor so that it was smooth instead of clumpy, then I let it cool, and mixed in the cream, vanilla, etc. SO IF YOU MAKE THAT MISTAKE DON'T JUST THROW IT OUT!!!! When it was all said and done and cool, it was delicious. Perhaps the texture was not quite as nice, but it was still good.

Dumplings

These are just like grandma's. Very tender and have a wonderful flavor. I like to roll mine about a quarter of an inch thick and use a pizza cutter to cut into 1 inch squares.

These cookies are to die for! Anytime I bring them to a party they get rave reviews. Have replaced peanut butter chips for chocolate chips which is also a good result.

A great way to dress up a standard brownie. Cannot believe that the recipe submitter is only 18 years old. Her culinary skills are way beyond her years!

Don't get me wrong, this is a very good fudgy brownie recipe. However, I have been searching for a homemade brownie recipe that meets or exceeds the boxed version. For me this wasn't it, will continue my quest though.

Sangria! Sangria!

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
Was trying to find an intersting drink to serve at my wedding. Adapted a bit and made berry sangria instead. Added frozen strawberry and raspberry juice. Then, put in some berry arbor mist with rose wine. Diluted it with strawberry sparkling water. Put some frozen strawberries and raspberries for an added touch. Anyone that gets married requests my berry sangria!

This was a very good recipe. Used Cherry 7-up in place of lemon-lime soda. Also added a few drops of red food color to brighten it up.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
My mom makes a killer chocolate chip cookie, but these have her beat. (Sorry mom!) This recipe comes out perfect every time. I always stick a few extra chocolate chips on the top after they are in balls because they look prettier. In my opinion, the ideal bake time is nine minutes. Make sure you place on a cooling rack after three minutes or they will continue baking.

Taffy Apple Salad I

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
Was apprehensive to use vinegar in this recipe, but somehow it worked. Put a dash of cinnamon and salt in the sauce, which made it better in my opinion. Only used about 4 oz of whipped topping. This was a fun recipe.

I used buttermilk in place of milk, seasoned Italian breadcrumbs, added ground thyme to the mixture and fried zucchini in addition to the tomatoes- they were wonderful!!! My veggie-hating 6-year old fought over them with his siblings- great recipe! :).

Blueberry Cream Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
I've been baking since I was a kid and have made blueberry muffins many times. Every other recipe I've ever used has been so-so. Usually sort of dense/rubbery and too wet, or too dry. I've been using this recipe since I found it last year after I went blueberry picking. This is the ONLY bb muffin recipe I'll ever use. They're bakery quality and stay fluffy, tender and just moist enough. I top them with a crumb mixture of 3TBSP butter, 1/3 c. flour and 1/4 c. brown sugar. I've gotten nothing but compliments from using this recipe.

Pumpkin Fluff Dip

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2009
I made this for my Bible study group. It went over VERY well. I served it with apple slices, ginger snaps and cinnamon graham sticks. I used cheesecake and vanilla pudding, and added my own spices- cinnamon, ginger, fresh grated nutmeg and a little allspice. I think next time I make it, though, I'll add a little more pumpkin. It really tasted like pumpkin pie in a dip. The kids LOVED it.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2009
Absolutely, hands-down, the best cornbread recipe I've ever made. I found this about six months ago and every time I make it, it disappears very quickly. I like to run a pat of butter over the top of it when it first comes out of the oven. You will not be disappointed with this recipe, it's a keeper :)

French Breakfast Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2009
I wanted to do something a little special and different for my kids for breakfast. I found this recipe ( I've made one like it before and they were disappointingly dry and heavy. I decided to give it one more shot. I subbed buttermilk ,grated the nutmeg fresh, and sprinkled the cinnamon-sugar on the muffins before baking to avoid having to dip them in butter. They turned out SOOO fluffy! They were SO fast to mix up and bake, they're going in my permanant recipe file. Thank you!!

Becky's Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2009
I made this for my husband and kids minus the nuts, (my son has a tree nut/peanut allergy)and subbed 1/2 craisins 1/2 chopped carrot to make up some texture. They ate.it.up. I'm thinking of ordering sunflower seeds from a safe non-nut contaminated source for the next time I make this so it'll be more authentic, but they loved it. It made a great quick dinner for them on a beautiful sunny day :).

Mexican Rice II

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2009
We love this recipe in our house-it tastes just like our favorite local Mexican restaurant. I do use brown rice to make it healthier so it takes almost twice as long to cook-but it is still really yummy! I also usually double the recipe and have some leftover.

Cream of Mushroom Soup I

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2009
Ohmygoodness-this soup is so good! We love this in our house. We get mushrooms at the end of the day from our local grocer when they clearance them and make a huge pot of it. My kids even love it. I try to make this at least every other week-whenever I can get a good deal on mushrooms. I have used all kinds of mushrooms-oyster, portabellas, baby bellas, shitaake, and regular old button mushrooms and it always turns out great. I do make it with fat-free half and half to make it healthier and it is still delish! I have made it with the cream as well and I can really hardly tell a difference. I don't put any of the soup through the blender-too much of a mess for me and I just chop the mushrooms fine enough for our tastes anyway. I also used cooking sherry-because it is just what I have on hand. When I run out of that I will buy some good stuff and I am sure it will be even better. I also freeze the leftovers in 1 quart baggies and use them when a recipe calls for cream of mushroom. Delish!

Cheesy Baked Cauliflower

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2009
This was decent-I am always looking for new ways to make cauliflower since I will only eat it cooked. I made much more of the mayo/mustard sauce than the recipe called for-I didn't measure but maybe 1/2-1 C total. I did use dijon mustard. Overall it was pretty good, but we really like the Nany's Cheesy Cauliflower Casserole from this site. But this recipe was pretty decent and everyone ate it.

Slow Cooker Barbecue Ribs

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2009
These turned out really well. I followed the recipe pretty much to a T. I used Bennett's chili sauce and a different cut of pork-boneless, but they got so tender and my 6 year old daughter had at least three helpings and everyone else came back for more as well. Next time I might add some onions and garlic, maybe a little mustard but overall was a very good recipe. Made lots of sauce so I am shredding the rest to have shredded pork sandwiches today. Thanks for the recipe!
