Barbecue Chicken Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2009
5 stars with just a few changes recommended by other reviewers. I split the ketchup with Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce. Also seasoned chicken with garlic powder and added it to the ketchup mixture. (I love garlic.) I also forgot to do the flour-shake-in-a-bag thing. I used bone in drumsticks and thighs. Very good.

Tasty Lentil Tacos

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
With all the fantastic reviews on this I was really hoping to replace one of our week night staples with a meat-free entree. The lentils were not soft and chewy, and I definitely like making my turkey tacos better!

Bacon Wrapped Smokies

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
No need to use toothpicks, just wrap the bacon tightly around the smokie and you are good to go. I added 1C. brown sugar and they tasted delicious. I did have to place them under the broiler to crisp up the bacon b/c the bacon was still raw after 40 minutes in the oven. Been getting emails all week for this recipe!

Bruschetta Chicken Bake

4 Stars as written, 5 with some changes. Followed other reviewers advise and added a couple tablespoons of balsamic vin., also used italian style diced tomatoes, personally I think it could use another can, will do that next time!

This is a keeper. Per other reviews, I sauteed the vegetables in a bit of oil first. Great way to finish off the Thanksgiving turkey!

Pear Pie III

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
What a beautiful pie! And delicious too. I sliced my pears before fanning them into the plate. I also added about 2 T chopped candied ginger into the egg mixture before pouring it over the pears. After baking, I cut a couple of the larger pieces of ginger into leaf shapes and arranged them on top of the pie for a Thanksgiving dinner. It was wonderful. Serve it warm if you can.

Hungarian Chestnut Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
The final product really was wonderful, a dense, dark chocolate flavor for true chocolate lovers. However, a word of caution. The author left out one important word in the ingredient list, and that would be JARRED. Or canned. I had only purchased fresh chestnuts previously and didn't realize until the moment that I was about to begin preparations, at 4:00 the evening before Thanksgiving, that I was meant to have bought precooked chestnuts. Boiling and peeling the little buggers by hand easily added another hour and a half to my prep time. I was not a happy camper. Should have just run to the store to buy some, but was afraid on the night before t-giving, there wouldn't be any left. Arrrgh. Also, good luck finding the marrons glace. I live in a big city and went to 3 stores that carry specialty items - no dice, so we did without. I'm sure it would have been fabulous with them. Give this a try but you may have to order the candied chestnuts online.

Campfire Bean 'N' Ham Soup

I love making soups and then canning them for future use. I loved this soup. I used my fresh basil that I grow in my greenhouse, and I substituted great northern beans. THANKS FOR SUBMITTING THIS, I never would have thought to add basil.

Rosemary Roasted Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
The seasoning was perfect, but you don't need anywhere close to 3/4 cup of olive oil. I baked this in a bag breast down for 3 hours (25 lb turkey) and then turned over breast up for another hour. It came out very tender and juicy. The herbs and garlic really made this bird extra special. I'll be using this recipe again next time.

Carrot and Fennel

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
Loved it!! Making it again for Thanksgiving. The only changes I made where a) I used half and half instead of cream, and b) I added a splash of dry sherry with the half and half. I served it family style, topped with chopped fennel tops and lemon slices. It looks as good as it tastes!

Autumn Apple-Squash Crisp

I really wanted to like this, but it didn't turn out as awesome as I expected. Made exactly as is, except in half. In part, the bottom wasn't as sweet as I might have liked, and the topping was pretty dry. If I knew how to tweak it I would! Thanks for offering it.
