This is a homestyle dish handed down from my grandmother to my mother to me. It's very simple but tastes out of this world! It's my husbands favorite dinner! The secret is the simmering!

Momma's Sloppy Joes

My mom has been making this basic sloppy joe recipe for so long that when I asked her how she made them, she had to make a batch to be sure of the measurements. These are no fancy joes - nothing but lots of sloppy, zesty mess! Beef may be used instead of turkey. Perfect for potluck or game day.

We love sweet potatoes and they are terrific when combined with plain white ones, especially in an old fashioned potato salad. This one has mayonnaise, a bit of mustard, celery, hard-boiled eggs, and a smidgen of chopped onion.

You can do all the prep work the night before, combining the chopped chicken with rice, cheddar and cream of chicken soup right in the baking pan. Top with soft bread cubes just before you pop it in the oven.

This sauce is from the very popular 'chicken bowls' in my hometown. It's very tasty! Use it as a marinade for chicken, or to baste chicken while grilling. Increase the hot chile paste as desired. Twelve teaspoons is usually as much as anyone can take!

I had been looking for a Tamale recipe for years. One day I went to the international market and stood in the Mexican aisle till a woman with a full cart came by. I just asked her if she knew how to make Tamales. This is her recipe with a few additions from me. This is great served with refried beans and a salad.
