Russian Mushroom and Potato Soup

Reviewed: May 11, 2009
This soup is excellent. I did use onion instead of leek, only because I didn't have leek. Also I added about 3/4 cup chopped celeriac (celery root) just because I needed to use it up. I will definately make this soup again, without my changes. I know that it will still be great.

Rhubarb Pudding Cake

Reviewed: May 8, 2009
We really loved this recipe. Just the right amount of sweetness and tartness. I did, however use 4 cups of rhubarb. I think it needed that much. I might try it with some strawberries next time. Mmmmm.....strawberry/rhubarb. Great recipe.

This was good right after baking. Next day, it was hard as a rock!. Gave it to the birds. Bottom line..bake it, and eat it!!

Round Steak Sauerbraten

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2009
Deliciuosly tender, and the sauce was amazing on garlic mashed potatoes. We didn't have onion powder, so we substitued garlic powder and minced onions. It would probably be even better with the onion powder. I didn't use the vinegar, instead I used dry red wine. Beautiful!

Asparagus with Garlic and Onions

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2009
I didn't think this one would turn out well. I suspected that the onion would overpower the flavor of the asparagus. But it turned out amazing! The white onion paired so well with the asparagus. I didn't get to brown it as dinner was running late, so I tossed the stalks in the garlic butter. I will be making this again soon!

Carrots in Dill Butter

Great flavor! I did not have dill seed, but I did have dill weed, and it came out great. Sweet, rich flavor, and the carrots were not overpowered by the dill. A definate make again.

Light, sweet, delicious... These cookies are wonderful! The first time I made them, I had no lime zest, so I made them without. Since then I've made them with it, and they are fantastic. I make them at least once a week. ^^

Grandma's Wheat Germ Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2009
These cookies are pretty good! Like the others said, they are kind of bland, though. I did add cinnamon and some vannila extract, but they were still kind of bland. More cinnamon, I think, maybe some honey. The blandness in mine could also be because I didn't have any brown sugar, just some light Brownulated sugar. Oooo... maybe some molasses... I'll definatly make these again!

Bread Machine Cardamom Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2009
This bread has a very good flavor. Very good texture, however I will set my machine on 1# loaf next time. It got a little dark on the 1 1/2# setting. Also, the bread was hard to get out of the pan. Maybe because of the applesauce instead of oil. I might try these as rolls next time.

Roasted Red Pepper and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2009
This soup is good. I used more red peppers and also added about 1/2 cup fennel bulb. It is a very light colored soup, so not as attractive as I thought it would be.

Aunt Dorothy's Marinated Carrot Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2009
This is a great colorful salad for potlucks, and it's nice because it can be made ahead of time and stays nice and crispy. I made one change due to personal taste, and I just wanted to see how it would be. I omitted the onion and added chopped fennel bulb. It was very good.

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
This is a very nice icing. I did have to double the recipe to have enough, for a half recipe of the Best Rolled Sugar Cookies from this site. I did add more milk and a little more corn syrup to get the right consistancy. These have a very nice gloss. I would use this recipe again.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
These cookies were pretty good. The dough was fairly easy to work with, although it needs to be kept cold. Definately needs to be refrigerated overnight. We liked the taste very much. I used the Sugar Cookie Icing from this site to frost them.

I love these. They are sweet, salty and chewy. Can't eat just one. These are so easy to make. I put these in the fridge to cool, as they do take awhile to harden.

Neapolitan Cookies I

I have made these cookies for probably about 20 years now. I got the exact recipe from our newspaper that many years ago. They always turn out great. The only thing I changed, was that I used double the amount of almond extract. Very good cookies and easy to make.

Sandies

These cookies are pretty good, however I have two other recipes that I prefer that are very similar. I think the sugar should be increased to maybe 1/2 cup. I would like them just a little sweeter.
