Thanksgiving Day Creamed Turnips

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
Turnips are not my favorite vegetable but this is a really good dish. I made it just as the recipe stated but tripled for my big family. The kids even ate it without complaint.

Irish Pumpkin Potage

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2008
This is awesome soup. I added 1 tsp kosher salt and I also precooked the pumpkin. I used the chicken broth as the liquid and omitted the milk. One thing I would personally change is that I used the whole leeks and the soup turned green from the tops. Tastes great but looks like Pea soup instead of pumpkin.

Apple, Carrot, Or Zucchini Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
This is very good. I used half zucchini and half apples and it was scarfed down in no time flat. This is a great way to use the veggies you have from the garden. It is a wonderful fall cake that is simple and tastes great!

Pumpkin Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
I'm rating the cheese ball I made. I really modified it. I omitted the pineapple and used real bacon bits instead of dried beef. I also added a half a package of ranch dressing powder mix. It was a huge hit!

French Bread Rolls to Die For

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
these had good flavor and baked nicely I should have made less of them and made them bigger. I wanted to use them as sandwich rolls not dinner rolls. They were a big small if you make as many as the recipe says

Almost No Fat Banana Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
My family loved this recipe. I used two bananas (I put them in the freezer when they are too ripe to eat and keep them for banana bread later). Next time I make this I will cut the sugar a bit but we thought the flavor was really good. The crust does get slightly rubbery but I don't see how that is a problem.

Pumpkin Fudge

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
I messed up and followed a suggestion that the 18 minutes was enough and ignored the fact that my candy thermometer wasn't at 230 yet. It worked great as an apple dip but didn't set up for fudge. I am definitely trying again and getting up to full temp. The flavor is out of this world. It will make awesome fudge just make SURE you are at soft ball stage!

Grampy's Special Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
No breadmaker needed. I've made this recipe twice now and it hardly lasted a day each time! I have a breadmaker but prefer not to use it most of the time. I mixed the yeast with the milk warmed to proof the yeast let it sit a couple minutes then added the honey butter and salt mixed, added two cups of the flour and the rice crisps and mixed then with my dough hook mixed in the last cup of flour until the sides left the bowl. I let the dough rise one hour cut into 12 rolls let rise another hour and baked at 375 for 12 minutes. I make bread almost every day and this is one of the best I've found!

Ham Salad Spread

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2008
I followed the recipe as publish but then I spread it on bread, added American Cheese and placed it in the oven (wrapped in foil) on 350 for about 20 minutes. Just until warm and there is a slight crust on the bread.

Butternut Squash Soup II

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2008
Great soup after spicing it up for the wife and her Weight Watchers® diet. Microwave squash as previously suggested in reviews. Added 1/8 tsp each All Spice, Ginger, Nutmeg, Cinnamon , about a ¼ cup of Craisens® and zest from ½ an orange. Right at the end off cooking and before serving I added 3 TBSP fat free sour cream and 3TBSP I Can’t Believe Its Not Butter®.

Cake Balls

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2008
I am sorry to say, I did not care for this recipe. As one other person said they are mushy, sweet blobs. The texture was a paste. I used strawberry cake and buttercream icing. I think maybe there's too much frosting? I was really hoping these would turn out for me. But, I just don't like the texture. Neither did my husband. It tasted like soggy cake with chocolate on top. I followed all of the directions right too. I even let the cake cool for about an hour.

Magic Peanut Butter Middles

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2008
awesome cookie. I read the reviews but I don't know how anyone ended up with dry dough. With a stick of soft butter and 1/4 cup of creamy pb I had very soft even a little greasy dough. I do have a kitchen aide and when I was beating the sugar and butters until creamy I waited until it was very fluffy and creamy and I think that made a difference. Anyway I certainly didn't need any extra water or milk! Turned out very good. I did make the pb middles first and put them in the fridge while I made the chocolate dough and I'm glad I did, it stiffened them a little. I used chunky pb for the middles and creamy in the dough very good combo. Love this recipe and will make it often.

Peoria Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2007
i'm gathering recipes for my daughterss to learn how to cook.(they are teenagers) We liked this because it was easy and tasted real good. I added cooked wide egg noodles to the chili the last 20 minutes and a can of drained corn. I'm teaching the kids how to feed a group without going broke.

Chicken Potpie

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2007
very good. I gave one to a family that had a hardship and kept the other for my family. The ingredients should read that you need two double pie crusts as the recipe makes two pies. I did make minor changes, the corn peas and carrots were all frozen. I had a bag of the carrots and peas mix so I used that and just made the total of all three veggies equal the total cups in the recipe. I also only used a 1/2 cup of butter. This was a fabuous dinner. Will definately make again!(and the family I gave it to asked for the recipe)

My picky family loved this!! I did change a couple things. I added two can of the Cream of Chicken soup and put 3/4 cup of cheddar cheese on each layer. I used rotini noodles (becuase that is what I had on hand)and I used the whole 16oz box. It turned out awesome and I will definately make it again!

Best Brownies

Reviewed: May 2, 2007
I have made a lot of homemade brownies and this is by far the best. It doesn't sink in the middle and it doesn't get hard on the edges. It is chewy and cakey the best of both brownie worlds. Definately a keeper. I made it with out the frosting (I usually don't make frosting because it is too sweet) so I can't speak to that part of the recipe.

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2007
I took this dish to a tropical theme birthday party and it was a hit. I made the chips the day before. I first cut the tortillas in a triangle, laid them side by side on a parchment lined cookie sheet. I then sprayed them with spray butter and sprinkled them with the cinnamon and sugar . When baking, make sure the chips are crisp before removing from oven, in my opinion it is better for them to be over-crisp then under crisp. The other thing I did is use fresh pineapple, hollowing out the center and using the shell as a dish.

Sugar-Coated Muffins

My name is Kya and I am 6 years old. I said that I wanted to bake something but my mom wasn't sure about it but my dad let me. It was fun but I was a little scared about the oven part. The muffins are a little like biscuits but with cinnimon. They are real good!I had fun making them too (Kya's mom)
