All American Apple Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2009
My boyfriend, Armando really liked this recipe. I followed the recipe, with some spice additions, and took some suggestions as to cook the apples for a while. My boyfriend stated that he thought the apples were a little overcooked. The only change that I made was to add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg and a pinch of allspice to the crust. So to summarize, next time I will only cook it for 15 minutes and try again. The crust recipe was super easy to make compared to a rolled crust. I will use it again to make pumpkin pie later this month.

All American Apple Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2009
This is a most excellent recipe according to all of my tasters. I made two, one with sugar free sweeteners in the filling but still with half real/half fake brown sugar for the topping. While this pie was good, it was not as good as the one with real sugar. I have this one taster who will eat both. I followed other's directions and cooked my filling on the stove first. I did add an additional 1/4 tsp cinnamon to the sugar free pie to boost the natural sweetness. I made it with the crust recipe that the recipe called for. It was so much easier than making a rolled out crust. I would strongly recommend this pie crust recipe for other pies as well. In addition, I used a regular rolled out hand made crust for the diabetic pie. I hope the diabetic influence will help other diabetics.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

I make a similar recipe, but add one teaspoon of cinnamon and 1 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice. The lemon juice will make your dough break down a little but keep beating it and it comes back together.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2009
I made this lasagna for company instead of my usual recipe. I added more cheese and used shredded instead of mozzarella slices. I ended up using about two bags (16 oz) of cheese, but found that this was too much. I also put in more ricotta, approximately 24 ounces with extra salt and parsley. I did use sausage and also added about 1 1/2 cups sliced mushrooms with the meat and onions. Next time I will add more mushrooms. Overall, this recipe beat my own lasagna recipe hands down. The sauce is excellent and quite savory. I also added 1/2 cup of red wine with the water. I also added some additional italian herb blend and some oregano. It was all wonderful. So to summarize, a little less cheese, and I think this one will be my main lasagna for years to come.

Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2009
I was using this to teach my 12 year old son an easy recipe. We put the spices on the chicken and were getting ready to put it in the pan when Dad changed our plans. So we threw the chicken into a ziplock bag for a few hours and when we got home, Dad decided to teach the 12 year old how to grill it instead. It turned out AMAZING. My 10 year old who avoids all meat as though it is evil, said it was good and he would eat it again. WOW. We did pour a little bit of lemon juice into the ziplock bag with the chicken and they put a small pat of butter on the chicken just before they took it off the grill. Easy and tasty recipe. Thanks!

Easy Fruit Cobbler

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2009
I used fresh peaches, and mine didn't come out as well as I hoped. It tasted good, but the center was too soft. If I make it again, I would stir the fruit into the batter instead of into the middle.

Crispy Cucumbers and Tomatoes in Dill Dressing

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2009
I followed the recipe as written the first time I made it and thought it was good. The dill adds a nice flavor to the salad and provides a twist on the traditional oil and vinegar based cucumber salad. The second time I made it, I used a white balsamic vinegar that I get from Trader Joe's, substituted one of the cucumbers for zucchini, and added a bit more dill and about 4 chopped basil leaves. This salad can be altered by the simple addition of a different herb or a combination of herbs, and it is great served with grilled chicken or BBq ribs.

Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs

Terrific marinade. I didn't use any salt and used 1/2 the amount of oil in the recipe. For my kabobs, I used chicken and shrimp on separate skewers, and they were delicious. Everyone enjoyed them.

Honey Grilled Shrimp

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2009
Very tasty. We really enjoyed this dish. I put orange bell peppers, red onions, mushrooms, and green onions on separate skewers and brushed them with italian dressing rather than use the same marinade as the shrimp. Since the worcestershire sauce plays a dominant role in the recipe, I recommend using a good brand like Lea & Perrins. I served the kabobs with steamed rice.

Cheesy Creamed Spinach

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
I cut this recipe in half and used 1 (5oz) container fresh spinach and 1 (10oz) frozen spinach. I added the frozen after it was thawed in the microwave to the wilted fresh spinach. The end result came out with a little too much liquid but Im sure thats from not pressing all the water out of the frozen spinach after cooking. The flavor was great and I did add some fresh ground black pepper. Very good!

White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2009
This was delicious, I made it for Fathers Day & was a huge hit with the entire family! I however did not use the white chocolate chips and instead got one of those bowls of microwaveable dipping chocolate(white) and added 2 pieces of bakers white baking chocolate and microwaved that up until melted then added in place of the chips & cream mixture. I also poured the rest of the raspberry sauce on top once cooled and topped with shaved white chocolate pieces. It looked good and tasted even better!

Pretzel Salad

Love this dessert! I use raspberry jello and 1 bag frozen raspberries. Make sure that you seal off the cream cheese layer before pouring the berry-jello mix on top or it will seep through! Do this by making sure the cream cheese mixture is up against all sides of your dish and no holes or cracks are there for liquid to sneak through!!

Shortcut Stroganoff

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2009
I give it 4 stars because when I make this by the recipe cooking the noodles in the dish, they always turn out chewy which I dont like. So now I prepare them seperately and use half the water called for then add them cooked before adding the sour cream. I also use a can of sliced mushrooms and I season the beef with garlic powder and steak seasoning before cooking! Delicious!

New York Cheesecake III

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2009
Im a cheesecake baking fanatic and just had to try this recipe, I mean it has so many great reviews! Mine did not turn out...the flavor was bland and texture was strange as if undercooked and just fell apart in pieces almost. I followed the directions and ingredients exactly too. I was hesitant about the shortbread-like crust and it was thick and not at all flavorful and pretty hard. This is the first cheesecake I have made in a very long time that cracked also. Maybe I was having a bad baking day..Im not sure but I wont be trying this one again.

Spicy Honey Mustard Pork Roast

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2009
I made this in the crockpot with a 3lb boneless pork shoulder picnic roast. I placed on a piece of foil then poured the sauce over it and wrapped the foil up. Set it to cook on low for 2 hours and high for 3 hours then removed the drippings and added flour & milk in a pan and made a gravy to pour over top. The gravy was wonderful, the meat however didnt absorb alot of the flavor, could have been my fault though. Overall very good recipe, I did leave out the thyme and used about 1T fresh ground black pepper.

Dill Pickle Bread

Reviewed: May 15, 2009
This bread was very disappointing. The texture was fine and the loaf looked nice, but the flavor was very bitter. *If* I try it again, it will be with "bread & butter" pickles or with the dill, but with sugar added and the dill weed & parsely left out.

YUM! I served this to go over the Vietnamese Meatballs. It was a great combination. I wanted a bit more kick to the sauce, so I added a bit of dried basil & some curry spice. I also heated the sauce before serving over the meatballs. This one's a keeper!

Vietnamese Meatballs

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2009
I agree with other reviewers - this is way too wet. I have no idea how you'd put it on skewers. An ingredient was left out for binding (oatmeal, bread crumbs, etc) or the directions are incorrect (heat to make the corn starch thicken?). On a 1 lb recipe, I had to add 1/2 cup of quick oats and 1/4 cup of panko bread crumbs to even come close to making a meatball. I served them with peanut sauce (a combo of recipes from here). They were really good - after the additions.
