Brigadeiro

i was expecting something firmer. the candy was moldable, but it was way too soft. it's so soft you don't even need to bite it, or even use your teeth to eat it. it tastes good, especially if you can get past the soft texture. but then again, i can only eat one.

Hot Cocoa Marshmallow Cupcakes

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2008
the frosting is very light and airy, and fluffy. i guess it kinda taste like hot cocoa... but a very plain and boring hot cocoa - hot water and a little sweetened cocoa powder.

Classic Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2008
i think the dressing is fantastic. it's a little sweet, a little zingy from the vinegar, a little mustardy, it all blends well. i truly love it... just not on macaroni. i think the dressing would be a star on potatoes... to make potato salad. also, next time i'll just add a splash of vinegar because it made my dressing runny rather than creamy. --- UPDATE --- i tried the dressing again with potatoes and it was heavenly! all i did was decrease the sugar portion to about half a cup... yum yum. (just a note - after a day, the sweetness cuts down.)

Butterscotch Cake I

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2008
man this was good. instead of butterscotch chips, i used chocolate chips and added only about half of what it's called. the taste was wonderfully complimenting. you can taste everything! all the tastes are working together to make this delicious and easy (cup)cake.

Campbell's Kitchen Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2008
out of the three puff pastry desserts i made, this was the least desired. i actually made this for my brother in law because he enjoys peanut butter, but he only ate half. i had to sprinkle mini chocolate chips on mine because the peanut butter was just too overpowering.

Creamy Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
i too had an unfirm frosting. because i have made numerous cream cheese frosting similar to this, my theory is that it depends on the cream cheese. sometimes (even if it's not expired) the cream cheese starts turning into separated curds and whey. i had this consistency today (it's philadelphia cc), and attempted to make a frosting. it was too wet, so i added 3 oz white chocolate dry pudding mix and splashes of milk... and mixed. the taste was delicious but i wanted back my tangy zing, so i added whip cream. result? the best of both worlds - a little bit of white chocolate, and a little bit of cream cheese. yum yum.

Carrot Cake IV

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
these are really good. i added a half shredded carrot for a more home-made taste. i layered the cake in four and filled it with cream cheese frosting; the cake really held well. altogether, the taste reminded me of "pumpkin roll cake" in the site. i will never labor for carrot cake scratch anymore! , and probably will never make "pumpkin roll cake" again. thank you, submitter!

Wonderful Banana Cake

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
these are wonderful. they're fluffy and moist. i made two batches. one with marble cake and the other with yellow. the one with marble cake, i separated the two flavors and made the chocolate cake into an inner layer (i was using a bake and fill set). i also put chocolate morsels and nuts into the inner layer. it was fantastic. the marble cake was much more enhanced in the banana flavor, even when eaten without the chocolate layer. in addition, i took the advice of others and frosted the cake with a mixture of pudding and whip cream. the frosting is delicious alone, and the cake is too, but they do not compliment each other. the frosting is too light for this cake. maybe a cream cheese frosting would be better.

French Coconut Pie

Reviewed: May 3, 2008
i was really hoping for a delicious pie. ack! the pie has been in the refrigerator for six days (only 2 slices have been tasted)... We did not care for this pie. "Grandma's coconut pie" is much more appetizing than this one. (in addition, this pie is greasy.)

Crepes

Reviewed: May 3, 2008
i really love the simplicity of this recipe. i took the advice of others and added more milk for a thinner batter, and i'm glad i did. the batter was easily spread out to a circle. i also added a splash of almond extract because i felt "nutty." may i add, the taste was fantastic... especially with whipped cream.

Grandma's Coconut Pies

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2008
i had to bake this 15-20 minutes more because i was waiting for the "golden" color. i used fresh coconut meat and did not shred nor cut them at all. perhaps that was the cause of the extra baking time. anyway, the cake was delicious... especially when chilled... but the "custard" looked a little too much like scrambled eggs. it didn't taste like it, but i couldn't get past the look. sorry, grandma; i'll look for another simple recipe.

Old Fashioned Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2008
i had some left over tuna salad that i knew no one would touch in days, so i made this. i halved the recipe, and by golly it was g-o-o-d. i was jonesing for that macaroni salad one of my staff shared with me so i added some raisins. it was a great contrast to the mustard. (for some reason, the mustard really stood out.)
