Croatia

Situated on the Adriatic Sea looking west toward Italy, Croatia has emerged from its recent turbulent past with a thriving economy and a boom in tourism. Its vibrant capital city, Zagreb, hums with sidewalk cafes. For centuries, European tourists have enjoyed the beaches and balmy summers of Croatia’s coastal regions and its thousand Adriatic islands. In Croatia’s northern regions, spicy stews and goulash reflect its Austrian and Hungarian past. You’ll find sauerkraut rolls, grilled meats and game, wild duck and pheasant, as well as sweet pastries and homemade cheeses. On the northern coast, lighter fare is seasoned with herbs and truffles and, further south, the decidedly Italian-influenced region offers pastas, gnocchi, and seafood, including calamari, shellfish, and grilled and roasted fish often prepared with Croatian olive oil. While Croatian wines are just entering the global market, Croats have been drinking their hearty red wines and light whites for hundreds of years.

Norwegian Hazelnut Cake

Wow! I can not believe more members and visitors to allrecipes.com have not tried this keeper. I found it easy to make, great looking and great tasting. The chocolate glaze compliments this nicely nutty cake in such a pretty way that it makes it wonderful for entertaining.

Blueberry Coffee Cake I

Reviewed on Apr. 30, 2004 by TLOZEC
I have tried many recipes from this site with great results but this has been my favorite so far! I substituted 1 1/2 cups fresh chopped strawberries instead of the blueberries. It was a big hit with vanilla ice cream on top. Yum.
