Eastern Europe

Although the cuisine of Eastern Europe is largely influenced by each area's climate and available resources, hearty soul-warming dishes are common throughout. To survive the region’s long, frigid winters, food in the north is usually hearty, sensible, and sustaining. Not surprisingly, countless varieties of soups and stews are found across Eastern Europe, although borscht is most well-known. Said to have originated in the Ukraine, almost every country has its own variation of the distinctive beet soup. Potatoes, a winter-resistant crop, are another staple in most Eastern European kitchens. Served in every possible shape and form, from thick pancakes to puddings, the tubers are especially beloved in Belarus, where they’re dubbed the country’s “second bread." Not just "the other white meat,” pork is favored throughout Eastern Europe. Everyday fare like roast pork, served with dumplings and cabbage, is often enjoyed in the Czech Republic, while jellied pork is a Romanian treat reserved for the holidays.

Cajun Chicken Pasta

Reviewed on May 9, 2008 by Aladyinredpolish
Impressive. I did have to substitute because I was not able to find cayenne pepper for the seasoning.. It was wonderful though, it had a nice zing to it and it was a brillant mixture of all sorts of flavors. I will make agian soon.

Lime Chicken Soft Tacos

Reviewed on May 7, 2008 by CRYSTAL-LYNN
Great recipe! The chicken was tangy, with just the right amount of spice and not too saucy. I added shredded cheese and plain white yogurt to my taco, which complemented the lime and garlic flavors beautifully. I'll definitely be using this recipe again.

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed on May 6, 2008 by Albena
Awesome and easy to make! If you get to cut your own chops you can choose how thick you want them. I cut them thin (from a big pork roast chunk) and it didn't take long to brown and bake. Very juicy and tender! Breading really keeps pork from drying out and tastes delicious! Sauce may be served separately instead of baked with the chops but this is personal preference. Overall, excelent recipe! Will make often!
