Costa Rica

Nestled in the heart of Central America, Costa Rica stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea. A top tourist destination, visitors can take in lush rainforests, winding rivers, and one of the 10 most active volcanoes in the world—Arenal Volcano. There’s also hot springs, thousands of miles of beaches, and many national parks and forest reserves. In many of Costa Rica’s seven provinces you will find coffee plantations, many which offer guided tours to watch the process of harvesting and roasting coffee beans. Costa Ricans—who call themselves “Ticos”—will argue Costa Rican coffee is the world’s best. Culinary traditions in Costa Rica vary from region to region, but you will not leave hungry! Common dishes include Gallo Pinto, Casados, and Arroz con Pollo. Wash the food down with traditional Frescos de Frutas or cafe.

About me: I learned watching my grandmother and making a lot of mistakes since I was 11. I guess I was lucky I was allowed to play with the stove :) I just moved to the US and I'm missing a couple of basic ingredients that are hard to come across over here. My husband is a vegetarian and I'm trying to learn how to get good flavour without meat, so far I've been only mildly successful.
