The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
These rolled out nicely, but but at 400degrees they came out burnt on the bottom and not cooked on top after 6 min. They next batch I baked at 350 for 10 min. and they came out nice, golden on the bottom. (1/4" thick). They tasted strongly like flour, but with icing they were okay.

Zesty Porcupine Meatballs

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2009
Very good!! My whole family enjoyed it & all had seconds. I doubled the recipe for my family of 6 and tripled the sauce. On the suggestion of another reviewer, I added extra soup to the meat mixture. Baked in oven at 420 for 15 mins, drained fat, then added sauce & baked again for 10 mins. Served over rice. Next time around, I may add extra instant rice, as they weren't very 'porcupine-y'.

Apple Butter Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2009
This is well worth the effort! I have made this for Thanksgiving 2008 & 2009 and everyone raves! A hint when making the apple butter I don't use a slow cooker, I cook on the stove approx 1 hour then transfer to blender. Puree well and return to stove approx another 30 min and it is excellent. I freeze the left over apple butter. The pie freezes well too. Good luck.

White Chocolate Blondies

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2009
Loved this one! I brought it to a Thanksgiving family gathering and it went as fast as the pumpkin pie. I doubled the recipe and baked it in a glass 9x13 pan and had to add at least 10 minutes to the cooking time. While it cooled on the counter, I made some chocolate ganache (with semi-sweet chocolate chips and whipping cream over a double boiler). I let both cool to room temperature and then spread the ganache over the blondies. I then let it set over night and cut it into rather small bars. This is a really rich recipe. I do agree with some that it is a little dense, but it almost tasted like a cheesecake - some people thought it was. I may try it again with a little less white chocolate. The toffee idea sounds good, too! Thanks for a new favourite!

Dutch Apple Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2009
This was the first time i have ever made apple bread. I made it for my pre-k class, they were learning apples in september, the teachers asked us parents to make something with apples as most kids never had alot of things with apples in them. I did not have the buttermilk so i used sour milk instead. Turned out awesome! 9 out of 10 kids said this was there favorite thing made with apples that day. I would say that is a sucsess!

Baked Homemade Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2009
My family loves mac and cheese and i thought i would try a new recipe. We found the finished product to be very floury. I made the roux and cooked the flour and butter the same amount of time that i usally do but you could still taste the flour. Also i added some other spices to it. We have had better.

Orange Chiffon Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2009
Turned out moist and fluffy, I agree with substituting OJ for the water, like the others stated. My cake needed more orange flavour. I've tasted even fluffier chiffon so I'm going to try and experiment with ratio of egg whites to batter. But overall, the cake was good.

Grandma VanDoren's White Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2009
I haven't made much bread - I'm a cake and cookie expert, though - and this recipe was so easy! It rose quickly and made three, nice, big, fluffy loaves of bread. I had to try it straight out of the oven. The crust was nice and crusty and the inside wonderfully soft. No dense loaves here! I can only imagine it with soup or peanut butter and jelly - that is if it lasts that long! Thanks for a great recipe!

Garlic Butter Sauce I

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
This was a good recipe. I only used 1 tsp oregano (personal taste). I had leftover spaghetti and added the butter sauce and then put it on the oven at 350 while I cooked the meat for supper. This allowed the spices to mingle with the butter. It was really good.
